Pete
That looks great. I'll bet you are pleased? I've been following your progress from just about day 1 and then I miss the big moment!!
Now hold it down so it doesn't fall off the bench, flood it with oil, set it going, but not too fast. Shut the shed door and go for a very long cup of tea. Go back every half hour or so to check it's fine, progressively reducing the pressure. Then have another cuppa. Maybe reverse it on some of the cycles. After a couple of hours you'll be surprised how loose it has become.
If you can run up a couple of rollers and load the frame with about 4Kg running in with a bit of a load will also help
Nice one

Hi Pete, Good idea re the rollers - will look into that this weekend (no time this week for any shed work!). I already have it now running down to 25psi so already loosening off well I have also now upgraded the oil from the light '3 in 1' to a heavier motor oil. I must get my test track upgraded from 5" to 3 1/2" and 5", with the amount of light hose I have I can probably run it up and down the track Not sure how much will happen this weekend as I have my wifes birthday and my mothers.

Well another warm week. Managed a few extra runs and can now run below 20psi. Had our run day today so tried out the mug tray, viewed here with Priscilla, an electric loco in the spirit of Australia Day (yesterday ) Unfortunately my car started making horrible noises yesterday, with the long weekend I can't do much until Tuesday. Guessing a CV joint Attachments:

Is the bloke in the blue shirt checking the other bloke's undercarriage?
Pete.

I think the other bloke is looking for the mug holder. I've looked and looked and can't find it either. Where is it Pete? Jim Hope there's nothing too serious with the car.

No, the're just good friends; it's a special Australia Day greeting!
The angle of the pennant staff in the funnel looks like the blast pipe need realigning. No wonder the funnel is cold enough for the flowers not to melt.
Pete, which club is that?
Regards Ian

The mug holder is just above the cut away container with the coal in it. The mug is red and a first glance looks like an oil tin. Come to think of it, it may contain lubricant!

Given that the 'bloke' in white is the other blokes wife ... Steam4ian has correctly identified the mug (labelled 'Old Fart'). It is the Northern District Model Engineering society (NDMES) in Balcatta. We have 2 1/2, 3 1/2, and 5" elevated track, and 5" and 7 1/4" ground level. www.ndmes.net/page1.aspx

I think the other bloke is looking for the mug holder. I've looked and looked and can't find it either. Where is it Pete? It's a cup Jim, but not as we know it! I can now see the reason for a special stand. It does look like it would hold quite a lot of tea. Given the weather reports from over there the contents its unlikely to get cold. Pete

I think the term is MUG (for the beverage container - not me! , from memory I think its either 1/2 pint or 1litre - and I get through three of them in around 4 hours In the new position I can keep the soot and cinders out of it Started on the boiler today - just cutting the 3" tube down to length before I melted.

Very little achieved this week, must tell the two bosses that work keeps getting in the way Machined up the former for the front tube plate from some 30+ year old Jarrah - beautifull wood to machine

Pete
Remember the dimensions of one of the firebox plates (I think its the backhead) are wrong in the drawings. Take look at my build for the correct info.

Stole another hour in the shed tonight and got the next former cut out. Also Northumbrian now ticks over very nicely on around 10PSI, compressor gauge isn't that clear at such a low pressure, although needs nearer 15PSI for reverse. I can live with that

Yo Pete,
I see you are playing with the copper stuff. What have you used for the formers- the round plate looks like wood?
To maintain the excitment - I am going to use Northumbrian as a boiler design exercise. I have bought a 1' piece of 2 3/4" tube to force me to use the wrong tube and hence a new design.
Hows the weather on your side of the planet. Its much better in the UK so no excuse for not making progress.

Formers are - Tubeplate (round one) Jarrah, turned to size in the lathe - very fine dust gets every where, real bu**er to clean the machine after. The other two - Firebox and backplate are 12mm ply with an extra 12mm backer. Weather still hot and humid - total reverse of whats best for the boiler work. So I am not doing much Me wise.
