Hi Rob, I resorted to replacing the bolts through the frames where the wheel rim ran past, with countersunk screws. Keep going, they will run well. Regards BB

I am doing just that... when I took the wheels off this morning I noticed about a 1/3 of the bolt heads show damage and 1 bolt was completely sheered ..i am also going to turn a taper on the pistons to aid starting at FDC or BDC ...i might also look at replacing the single wide piston ring for 2 narrower ones

Tomorrow should see me back to running on air and starting to refit the cladding .... Question ..... what is the best method of fixing things like nameplates, builders plates and tender water level notices onto the engine... I was going to use a gel type superglue on areas that don't have any heat near them... but what about by the boiler or smokebox Robert

hia all www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2y4YLKj6ZMvideo of the chassis running on air... it took almost all day to sort out including having to strip out the centre cylinder valve again and fit locking nuts to the valve spindle... Robert

Hia all.. the next instalment... i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l544/wiltsrob/GoldenEaglelocomotive001.jpgthis did show up some interesting problems.... it looks like I will have to remove all the cladding and make some oil pots so the inside bits can be oiled as there is way less access than I thought I would have .. plus I have some major gaps in the plate work which I will need to fix. plus.. the lubricator for the centre cylinder is playing up.... it will pump oil when cold but wont when hot...?? Looking good Rob, I hate mechanical lubricators, Flying Fox has had a problem in the past, and I made a complete new 3 compartment one, which is better, but not as reliable as hydrostatic. Is that a modelworks body, or a Wilkev one? Keep going. regards BB

Hia..
its the Wilkev one.. and it is produced using the finest model works tradition of poor design and construction.
to give an example... 1 running board is 1/8" longer than the other and that is the good bit...
I am going to have to strip it back to basic metal components and re weld the whole thing to get it square...the dome cover in the cladding is 1/4" smaller diameter than the dome so I cant remove the dome while the cowling is in place meaning every 4 year hydraulic test will require a complete strip down of the cladding and a new paint job.... those of you who know me will be most surprised to learn I swore on a couple of occasions last week while trying to fit the cowling..

morning all... I know its been a while since I posted here but I thought I would show my current state of progress since I am now committed to 2 events which are fast approaching. s1123.photobucket.com/user/wiltsrob/library/the painting has been somewhat of a pain, especially with dust getting on the wet paint.. then my word how many times have I sworn at the lining .. I didn't know I knew so many expletives ... even having read Chris's book and followed his advice where I can I am still not happy with the result .. it looks fine from anything up to 3 foot away but when you get closer you can see all sorts of things wrong with the painting.. but I knew I was never going to achieve a museum quality finish. ( it was my first attempt at spraying a loco with airbrush ) Robert
