I saved this, i118.photobucket.com/albums/o97/the_viffer/DSCF0042-1.jpg , from being binned. It looks like some kind of non-reversing tapping head. It is on a 2MT. The body has "Caledonian Tractor and Equipment Co Ltd Jay-Dee Universal" engraved on it. The big knurled ring looks to be worked by a C spanner which is missing and the ring is too stiff to move by hand and can shift between "HP" and "LP". The lower knurled ring looks like a locking ring and can force a locking ball into a groove on the tool holders. Some of the tool holders have a large plain hole in them, some have a smaller hole with transverse locking screws and are engraved with things like 1/2 WH. Other tool holders have no end float but maybe 1/4" lateral freedom. Can anyone provide me with more information about what it is and how to use it? Of course if anyone would like to take this heap of junk rare and desirable item off my hands then feel free to let me know.

viffer, I have a similar tool which i made many moons ago, icoppied it off another. But i'm afraid i can't remember who the owner was, probably some old guy at work ( THE PLANT).
However i can shed a little light on its uses; The one i have has a lot more "dies" with different size holes through ,and can vary in length, some others have a thread through, their use,
well we used to put a screw through , and a t a pre-determined position drill through for a split pin,or, they were used to drill a batcch of clevis pins all the same length from cap to hole.
hope that will put a little lght on it.

Thanks steammadman, I appreciate the info. I know the kind of thing you mean.
I think the bit of kit I have has additional capabilities and may be different. There are the remains of a tap in one of the holders. The box lid is scratched and not completely legible but it has a picture of a drill and a tap and something about torque on it. There is also the C spanner adjustable ring on the body.
Cheers!
