Thanks for that Don, my works drawings were inconclusive as the detail was lost amid a mass of other dotted lines trying to show hidden details.

Hi Don9f
Come to think you've got to be right as why would they put a gland to keep the draught out if it was all one piece with a rod turning inside it, many thanks.

At least you're doing something Geoff which is more than I can say. The progress on the boiler is looking impressive, you should be very happy with that.

Hi Geoff, The answer is 'Yes' though there were metal sections as can be seen here at the rear of the cab. Somewhere I have photos of the cab floor taken looking towards the Backhead. I suspect they got caught up in the Photo Bucket debacle. This link from Fraser Ker's detailed album takes you to a photo of the cab looking towards the backhead and you can see the metal plate in front of the fire hole door. Hope this helps. I was talking to Bruce Beasley in our club who is also building a Bolton Beam Engine and he was giving me a gee up to get the Britannia over to the club for a steam test and run. I will when the days get a bit longer and warmer. Now I have my OBE I can be a bit of a wimp in winter.

Hi Geoff, It appears the dimple plate goes all the way across the back of the cab behind the seats. Forward of that it is wood but there is a metal sheet in front of the backhead. Sorry the second picture is blurred but it might give you a clue, I did not realize until I got home from the G C that a lot of my cab photos of Oliver Cromwell were blurred. I will just have to go back and take some more.

Hi Geoff I did a little searching on the web but didn't find an answer to your question, I bet it's out there somewhere. However I did find this site which has 3 very informative large pages on class 7's, they seem to have a little something about all in the class. Lots of very good photo's showing details between the various loco's in the class, might be of use sir... www.davidheyscollection.com/page90.htmPete

Cream paint, although my Hornby model has a colour that seems to match the seat leather seen in Mike's photos so whether the cream is a preservation era change is open to debate. 70000 had a cream colour in 2011: evergreen.zenfolio.com/p912852695/h6C6969F#h6c6969fRegards, Dan

Yes I agree it's cream colour in Jim's photo but on the shots I have of Ollie it's a weird orangey colour, possibly due to smoke staining over the years. If you are interested in an orange cab I think I can find you a photo.

Hi Jim, I was casting an envious eye at your gauge columns on a secret visit to Oz. I'm going up the town tomorrow and I will get a small tin of cream paint and a tin of varnish for the floor boards,

Hi Jim, I was casting an envious eye at your gauge columns on a secret visit to Oz. I'm going up the town tomorrow and I will get a small tin of cream paint and a tin of varnish for the floor boards, Geoff (Carlisle). Well that's the last time I'll let a posh looking gent claiming to come from Carlisle into my workshop and not before I gave him a couple of soothing ales and some crisps because he said he didn't get anything on the plane.
'Eying off my water gauges' too. He'll be at your place next Geoff so watch out.
If it's any help I used Humbrol cream along with their clear varnish. The floor boards were made from the long 'paddle pop' sticks you can get in craft shops. It's a little know fact that they are scale replicas of the ones used by BR for the floors of their Britannias. Trust me I'm over 80 now.
Cheers Jim OBE

Hi Geoff
The photos I have seen of Britannia's cab interior show it as an 'off-white'. Just use some white and put a drip of yellow in. I am sure they must have turned to cream after a few weeks and then orange/brown after a year's work!
Norm.
