Just been in W.H.Smiths Exeter at lunchtime today and for the first time ever the Model Engineer is in a please don't even read the contents, clear plastic bag. Now the Smiths in Hong Kong had magazines in plastic bags in the Chinese section and I could easily guess the contents! even without a translation from my wife. Now lets at least have an index printed on the outside or are the contents not in keeping with the current health and safety laws.
(Well the timing belt on the front cover didn't have a guard on it)

Interesting one this - and it is growing. Suppose it prevents people reading without buying. On the plus side, at least you get a new magazine, many I have found are well-used, dog eared and very much second hand. >:(Even getting one from the back of the pile does not work these days - the shop staff move the dog eared ones from the front to the back. At least the magazine was there. You did not say if you bought one of the Chinese magazines! Bet you went back to buy when your wife was not there - interesting article on suspension no doubt. Perhaps a more imaginative theme along these lines for ME would brighten it up a little. ;D Regards, Bo.

Maybe they have finally caught up with us, the tight fisted bunch that we are... But what are the implications for those who may want to join our ranks? How many of us as youngsters picked up a copy of ME at the newsagents and wondered at the idea that people made these things in the warmth of their own houses (or not if their wives caught them)? Then years later finally were in the situation to actually to fulfill our childhood dreams? Magazines have a lot to answer for. Jo

Guys,
My ME dropped through my letter box last week and as usual was clean and pristine in its poly envelope. The bonus this time was a 'free' Arc Euro Trade Catalogue full of wonderful kit and reasonable prices. Having used them the other week I found them fast and had reasonable postage rates. (usual disclaimer).
Having also bought an ME Workshop I now have two AET catalogues.
The other point about not being able to see what's in it is a bit like subscribing to a regular issue through the post.
