Hi all, Having completed the smokebox for a 2 1/2" gauge Princess Royal which was made from an artiliary shell case I acquired on Ebay, I am left with a nice piece of brass tube about 10" x 3 1/2" and about 16 gauge thichness, with a slight taper. I've been wondering what I could use it for, I fancy some kind of steam engine with a verticle boiler, and indeed if brass would be suitable for the job. I would be very grateful for any suggestions as to any available plans and any other ideas etc.
Regards Jack.

Jack,
There has been a long going debate on not using brass for boiler fittings because the zinc content can be leached out by the water resulting in catastrophic failure. It follows that one should not make a boiler from the stuff.
Yea, I know Mamod boilers were brass but that was a while ago.

I know Mamod boilers were brass but that was a while ago. and ran at a very low pressure. I understand that that some grades of brass are ok but unless you know for sure....
