I have inherited a partially built 2" Rushton Proctor Steam Tractor and as part of my trying to sort out where I go from here I noticed the boiler had the serial number *CM*1218*5*01*CS* neatly engraved on it. I presume this probably means it's a commercially made item but does anyone recognize the type of number ? I'm presuming the 5*01 is a date but if I could find out who made it I might be able to trace a bit more of it's history as I have absolutely no other paperwork to go with it.

Dick Guessing wildly, CM could stand for Cheddar Models, and 1218 is probably the boiler number. Unfortunatly, Cheddar Models are no longer with us, but you might try www.CheddarValley Steam.co.uk, in case they hold information relating to Cheddar Models. Regards Richard
