Hi All
Just to let you know Southampton is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the opening of the raised track and the 100th anniverary of the founding of the Society on the 6/7 October with an open weekend and rally and party and all!! (This appears to be the only date that does not conflict with other clubs.) We have a ground level 7 1/4" and raised 5 and 3 1/2 track and a river for your boats and a big playground for the kids. Search Riverside Park on Google Earth. Cheers David

Hello David/Midland,
I have just found your message on the forum and I<M very interested in what yo say about the opening of the track at Southampton because I believe I may have been there on that occasion. Around about that time I visited two clubs down in your south coast area namely Bournemouth and your own Southampton club, however I believe the Bournemouth occasion was to attend an I.M.L.E.C., event. There are a number of things I can recall about that time but, memory being what it is, I am a little confused and need a little help to remind myself which event was which., eg., did the famous model engineer J.N. Maskelyne attend the event, if so then I can recall some pleasant occurrences which your members may wish to know about, or indeed be reminded of. I visited your club as a member of a visiting contingent from what would then have been the St Mellons Model Engineering Society, now The City of Newport Model Engineers. My question to you is "Did J.N. Maskelyne visit your club on that occasion", if so I will write more fully.
Pete Rich President of the City of Newport, M.E.S.
