Following on from this thread about boiler fittings... modeleng.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1163787675I made this tonight - I know it's no great shakes but I was quite pleased with it - a simple adapter to enable testing of a safety valve using a foot pump. I hacked the valve out of an old bicycle inner-tube (hence the thread title ) and removed the rubber - I don't know how they shrink it onto the valve assembly but I resorted to burning it off with the old blow lamp I'm not sure if this is generally the case but the opposite end of the valve was just the right size to accept a 6mm thread on the outside. As my safety valve has a 6mm thread for the boiler fitting I chopped up part of a previous valve attempt to create a threaded collet so I could connect my new valve to the pump! Piccy shows (left to right) safety valve to be tested, collet made from scrap valve, bastardised bike tyre valve. Not interesting or pretty but it works and is airtight to lots of PSI! Also finished off all my safety valve components tonight - I just need to get the spring the right length!

Hi Paul
That is pretty similar to the adaptor I was describing except yours looks a lot cleaner than mine! However beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;D
You will find plenty of other uses for it I'm sure and not only nice and cheap you have the warm glow that recycling can bring!
Cheers
Brian
