Matt - for some reason I cannot follow the URL. What's the issue?
Is it this list of model loco plans? Went into WHS in a hurry and without specs, brushed aside the readers, picked up what I thought was a copy of MEW, got it home and it's a list of plans for 4 quid odd.
Regards, Bo

thats exactly it, I'm looking for a s/h shaper so bought it only to find it only contained a list of plans, its a good idea, except that it should have been sent out as an addition to the normal mag not the the entire contents of it. the fact the MEW is so expensive just rubs salt ing the wound.

Hi Bo
How annoying - looks ike the site is down (temporarily I assume). Do please keep trying.
And yes it is about the 'Engineering Plans Special'.
Cheers, Matt

Yes I got caught by that one as well. Ahh a new MEW I thought. Contains a selection of old and sort of new plans, some castings not available at all for some, dead in the 70's, and if you have the plans handbook superfluous anyway.
I will vent my spleen here, but thanks for the chance Matt,
Regards,
John

Hi All, Have just looked at the rc groups forum and have just realised what is going on. What a rip off! To send out a list of plans as a suscription issue can't be short of fraud, can it? As a subscriber to MEW I have done my duty.
Chris.

Ahhhh the power of the internet, the tree destroyers need learn more

I am not a subscriber but saw this issue on the shelves of a High Street Newsagent and had a quick look, first thing I noticed was the listing of suppliers included Norman Spink in Chesterfield.
Now I am fairly certain that Norman is now busy in the eternal workshop in the sky and that his range has passed to Blackgates, this major error instantly put me off buying a copy.
Not only is this not a suitable subsciption issue it could cause some distress to any relatives of Norman still at the same address/phone number.
In the latest copy of Model Engineer that I have seen there is an advert for an editor for MEW so it could be that this matter is already being addressed.

Hi All,
you will be interested to know that in answer to my 'red hot' e-mail yesterday ( see my post) I have received an apology from Owen Davies ( MD of MEW parent company ) and a promise to extend my subs by one issue. The excuse is that MEW and ME have received so many requests to re-publish the plans. It is implied, but not said that it is my fault I am dissatisfied!
Also, Issue 121 of MEW arrived this morning, a quick thumb through shows no mention of the plans book, but the plans book index appears as page 33 with no explanation!
Strange, or are we talking left hand and right hand?
Regards to all,
Chris.

Glad we are all satisfied. Perhaps they will not try that one again.
Ahhh ..... I am an old fashioned engineer who has by force of circumstance moved into the modern world. We all talk here and elsewhere, its a small ME world as it always was.
They will not nick my £3.75 again, I hope. I am from Yorkshire, like a Scotsman but lacking the humour. ;-)
Regards,
John

This thread is interesting I think I got the plans thing free?? I have just recieved No 121 but looking though it of the 60 odd pages almost a third of which are advertisments now while I know adverts keep the price down but 20 out of 60 pages who's having a laugh. I shall have to have a look at one of my first MEW just to see what the ratio was back then.

But never another edition (Its pretty basic anyway)... Subscribers please advise them of that. Does anybody know the direct publishers email address by the way?? Happy to send to him a quick email on this. It's a small ME world and if they want to try this one again....

Umm, happened to see it on the shelf in Smiths last week whilst christmas shopping and nearly bought it, glad I didnt now. Sadly for the publishers I am unlikley to buy again unless I can actually see what is inside it!
