Having not posted any progress for ages, I thought I'd add a couple of pictures of I bit I've been playing with this week. It's the inner dome. I've modified from original: It's in one piece for a start, rather than made from parts; It has no safety valve outlets, they're going on the boiler barrel; It has a groove for an O-ring; and it has a bit more room inside. The extra room is to accommodate a ball-valve regulator. The valve is also in the photos. I've cut off one end, to make it shorter. The plan is to make a fitting that can support either this valve, or a disc regulator as original, so I keep my options open. Wilf

Looking good Wilf. I made mine to the drawings, well obviously not quite because it was very tricky and time consuming to fettle!
Can you explain where the safety valves are going? How will they protrude through the saddle tank?
Tim

The safety valves are on top of the boiler in the same position as Bridget. The plan is to shorten the saddle tank so there's a gap between it and the front of the cab. The spectacle plate remains in the same place but lower down there will be cab extensions to provide bunkers. Inspiration came from a book l borrowed on industrial locomotives, and Hawthorn Leslie ones in particular, where there were pictures of this arrangement. I'll see if I can post my modification to the side view drawing. Edit: Here it is - in this incarnation I'm exprimenting with a shorter chimney, too. Wilf

That makes sense, thanks. That way the easing gear could protrude into the cab? It's nice to see a modification making something unique.
I note the name change :-)

I saw a Jessie under construction last Saturday.
The builder is a very experienced guy and he showed me what remains of his collection. A Dukedog, a 4-4-0 County and a 0-6-2 LMS tank engine, all 5" gauge. He sold his older 3.5" locos some years ago, more's the pity. He also has a fine collection of wagons. The skill on show is fabulous.
Anyway, the Jessie chassis is complete and he has a commercial boiler. Should be a cracker!
Pete.
