I recently went to a show in Germany. The temporary track in the convention hall there was of a suboptimal quality. I derailed at a switch point and ALL 4 spring pins of the leading axles were sheared off. When I do repair this, I'd like to make these pins more durable or protected. Any ideas how this could be done? Thanks Johannes

Trouble is, if you do make them stronger, what's going to shear off next time?
The ground level Ajax we used to run had crash bars front and back for it to land on on poor track. These were horizontal bars just above track level for the loco to drop onto and slide
My 3.5" gauge loco used to regularly wipe out the guard irons if it derailed on ground level track

Crash bars fore and aft are my solution too. Too many times I nearly knocked the drain cocks off when visiting another track so I decided to do something about it before my luck ran out.
