7 1/4" Toad

Over Christmas I took a couple of back issues of ME for a read and found a drawing of a GWR Toad in the Keith Wilson articles from the late 90's. (Tenders and Toads)

It sort of implies that there was to be a series of construction articles or detailed notes to build a Toad but despite going through the series there are just one or two extra photos and a piece about welding the chassis rather than rivetting.

Does anyone know if a series was published covering contruction?

My problem is that I have no proper index and when I sit down with a box of magazines to go through I get distracted and end up reading all sorts of other things. Great for passing time but causes loss of workshop time.

I have started to build a Toad from a GWR drawing found on the web but if component drawings already exist it would save time. My plan is for a driving truck with a water container in the enclosed part and coal in the open part housed in the usual ice cream box, part of the roof above the open space will be removeable for access.

1996 vol 176 no., 4017/1996 vol 177 no., 4021.
2001 vol186 no., 4146. vol., 186 no., 4148. vol 187 no., 4154. vol 187 no., 4152. vol 187 no4150. The first two are in his series "How To Make' Em". Might be of some help. isc

Thanks isc, that's a great help. The two in How to Make 'Em are what I found. I shall have to dig around as all my ME's up to 2000 are all stored in bookcases, after that I ran out of space and they are all over the house and probably some still in the UK as well...

I would be interested in a copy of the drawings, but I live in the USA, so drawings are hard to find,

Isn't life strange? I have almost finished my Toad and in the end used this drawing and worked more or less to that.

Since the demise of Photobucket I have not got round to finding another host but will do so soon so that I can post a few pictures. What is sobering is that this 'quick' project has taken 4 years!!

I was looking for another post and happened on this. I have almost finished the Toad, I need to decide on a running number and depot name, though Oswestry is highly likely.

Here is the Toad with Tich during the lunch break at the Milan Expo in early April, since then other things have eaten in to time available so it could be another year before I get round to the numbering. Picture right at the end of the post.
