Hi.
I'm considering purchasing the 9F that is currently for sale on Station Road Steam.
But before I go any further in the decision I need to check what the minimum radius of curve the loco will negotiate.
I'm led to believe that multiplying the "fixed wheel dimension" by 20 is a pretty good starting point.
Could someone with a 9F please tell me what the actual "fixed wheel dimension" is. Either in metric or imperial.
Or if someones already worked out the minimum radius curve for the 9F then perhaps they would care to divulge the information.
Many thanks
Roger

Hi Roger,
I have a 5" 9F but I'm not at home to give you the dimension you require at the moment. What I can tell you is that I take it to lots of different societies and have never had an issue with curves. My home club has 60ft radius curves on the main running track but a30ft radius curve leading from the steaming bays which my 9F will navigate but I wouldn’t want to go any tighter.

Hi Jason.
Thanks for that.
May I ask .... is your 9F a Modelworks one or scratch built?
The one on SRS is a kit one but it's only been run on air and never been steamed.
Perhaps you may be able to give me some pointers?
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Roger

hi roger,
some years ago we tried the late albert north's brit and 9F chassis's round the raised track at broadfields (im assuming you want the loco to go round broadfields?)
the brit was ok but the 9F wasnt despite the new track having a larger radius and the 9F having its flanges missing as per prototype. from dim memory i think it was the front bogie that caused the problems vis a via the cylinders.
i hope this helps.
cheers, julian
