Hi Julian
Re the piston rod fixing, if it's the same as the Modelworks Brit, the end of the piston rod is threaded and screws into the crosshead; what you can see in the photo is just a grub screw to lock the thread. In fact I swapped over my crossheads so that the grub screws were hidden on the inner side - they are still accessible with an allen key.
Regards, John

Hello Chaps----------- I've had several transactions with Mike Palmer at Station Road Steam and have ALWAYS found the experience to be professional and satisfactory in every way--- a genuine pleasure, unlike some that I've had links with....PETER....I'm sure all will be ok and you will have a loco to be proud of !!----- Keep us informed, please ??

Yes sure, ill will keep doing updates. mister palmer showed me his workshop last saturday. Realy nice quality stuff they make and a nice workshop with 2 new cnc machines. During our e mail contact he informed me that the engine needs some work. But the motionwork looks realy well, and runs on air. He also told me the paintwork wasnt to good. Mister Palmer would also suply me with firing tools steam oil etc. He was realy helpfull to get everything done. At this moment i have transfered the money and the engine will be shipped next teusday Im not realy looking for a model in exhibition state. Just want to learn and enjoy driving first, and next winter its time to Take it appart and give it a nice "fresh" look.

---------- or, being a Model Engineer, you could get some design ideas from your local track sites, clubs and ----make one yourself ??..........Try the " T " shape with the fan blowing air through the top tube..That way the exhaust gasses don't heat up the traction motor ... My guess would be something like 40mm tube

There comes a time when you have to weigh up the cost of a commercial item against the cost of the materials and the time to make something. I bought a Blackgates blower, because I thought it was cheaper. Even working on an hourly rate of £10 an hour instead of the more usual £55 that is charged for my machine, could you make one that quick?

The blower from Steam fittings is a lot cheaper than £55.. Iirc less than £20 and at that price it really isn't worth building one yourself. How long it lasts I have no idea but it did its job so far on the few times that I've used it.

Hello Chaps--------- well "Blow me !!" ----- I didn't realise we were getting THAT deep into it commercial rates an all ...T'was only trying to encourage our young friend along a DIY route ....plus the useful contacts, friendship etc gained whilst at the club itself.. ejparrot said}---"There comes a time when you have to weigh up the cost of a commercial item against the cost of the materials and the time to make something."------ When I was Self-Employed I would agree totally, BUT.. this is a HOBBY we're discussing here... not a business. Anyway, he could dig around some scrap boxes and knock something up whilst the loco is in transit to him ??--- so a bit of Re-Cycling there as well....His choice at the end of the day. Surprisingly I actually AGREE with the general sentiment in that quote as, for example I would be happy to turn-up some boiler gauge glass fittings .... but wouldn't even consider making my own pressure gauge !!------- but enough of that, eh ??

Alan, ive made a miniature pressure gauge as per the roy amesbury design - i would recommend anyone to 'have a go'. i also have quite a stock of the late freddie dinnis's phosphor bronze bourden tube if anyone wants some to have a go at their own. i remember drummond treadle lathes in the home (ok, it was the spare bedroom), and ive made lots of parts 'indoors'. with a bit of ingenuity and thought an 'indoor' workshop is quite practical....until you get to flanging boiler plates or rivetting up frames! lathe work and drilling and milling is quite ok, though change your shoes and take off the workshop overcoat before entering other rooms! dont wear trousers with turn-ups! gunmetal is the worst culprit... the chippings get everywhere including my hair! cheers, julian

Hello JULIAN}----------- Ooerr, I've just had this odd "vision" of you with short, golden, curly hair------ almost like a Greek God !--- thick, trunk-like legs from the treadle lathe and "squinty" eyes from assembling that 1/2" dia gauge ------ Strange hobby this ( Chuckle ) ;D ;D

@mr Pondok, i think he will do this soon I have ordered a blower from steamfittings.co.uk, should be fine. 50 € A guy from germany called Der lokbauer is going to make a 5" rolling road for me to test it when its ready. This week the engine will arive and i will post some pictures. Will check everything first before trying anything Check al the valves, open de cylinder caps, check the regulator, timing etc. In 2 weeks i will get the boiler hydraulic tested and checked.
