Hello All , would someone be kind enough to tell me if there any drawings and castings for building an unrebuilt bulleid pacific in anything over 2.5 inch gauge ? I dont think there are as you dont see many, and do not think it would work if i designed it myself

Hi Spamcanpete In short I dont believe there is a comercial design in any scale. There are a couple of Streamlined Merchants about in 5" gauge complete with chain driven valve gear and one of them is a regular visitor to the Guildford rally. I seem to remember seeing one in 3.5" gauge but cant be sure. If you want one then you may be on your own if you cant track the owner down and get him to give you the info at least the wheels are available from MJ Engineering.

As Andy mentions,MJ Engineering can provide drawings and castings for a "Ariel",but this is for a 5" gauge rebuilt Merchant Navy class, which this might be of some help. There was a very nice 5" gauge model of an unrebuilt MN at the Chesterfield MES site that I saw early this year,or last year if you're reading this in 2007! I haven't any more details myself, but the Chesterfield Society do have a website so it might be worth contacting them for more details.

that would be the partner to this one then!! I believe they where made to the same set of plans. Certainly this one has got the full set of chain driven valve gear running in an oil bath. Andy

Many Thanks for all the replies. I do know of a design by chris? barron in 2.5 inch gauge called lyme regis for a bulleid light pacific. This has 3 sets of stevensons valve gear ( not sure whether its slide or piston valve though). I dont suppose this would be too difficult to double up to 5 inch, like a doubledyak or suchlike, using some of the ariel castings ( have to remove the balance weight off the wheel castings though - cripes) anyway thanks for the great photos
