I see there is a part built Prairie for sale on Station Road Steam at £5500. Second time its been up for sale it says. Engineering looks exceptionally fine. Wonder why it has not been finsihed though.
Its given me an interesting price check on my efforts which are much further advanced than the one for sale.
Just spent weeks on the backhead fittings....

That is one beautifully built locomotive, and well worth the asking price, those cylinders combining the smokebox saddle are fantastic, whoever takes this project on, and keep the workmanship to the high standard shown, will have an exceptional locomotive.

Wonder why it has not been finished though. . Probably because the builder got fed up with it, just like yours truly! JB

Another but pricy locomotive goes for sale!9500 Superb but what of the missing rod??? They are made in pairs! Mostly people hate painting them and for that lots of space that is clean dry and well ventilated。 A grit blasting machine also helps!
David。 Trying to organise a 3 day journey to a place called Kumul just this side of Mongolia of all places??

Another Prairie chassis turns up on Station Road Steam. A long look over her and she is not to Trevor's design. She has 41XX wheels due to the cut out webs by the crank. A list. The frames are full length not with extensions. The joggle is not curved enough. Many years of asking Reeves to get these done to their frames fell on def ears. The Bulldog also needs them as well as the King. The cylinders and saddle are in 3 bits. Not a bad idea as the Reeves castings are now beyond in price. The weighshaft is interesting and I think the bearings have been swapped with the motion hanging brackets. A very nice idea on the eccentrics. Missing inner and outer strengthening plates by the motion bracket. There may be more?

Hello David and Lily, I have just bought the Shortland 51XX loco parts that were advertised in Steam Workshop about 5 years ago. This was a private sale, and includes an unused Ellis boiler (with the test certificate) , and most - if not all - of the side tanks, cab and bunker. I'm glad I got this before seeing the SRS one as I may well have been tempted to buy it, LOL! Might be calling on your knowledge at some time re the one I have. Greetings from Altarnun, Cornwall. Geoff

I know Altarnun well or did 20 years ago when attending many Philippine parties.
Yes I do have the ultimate guide to building a Prairie Tank in the shape of Trevors own model. I am also doing 2 of my own build ones in between all other things including rebuilding of a house and running repairs to our place in Plymouth.
I tend to do things in batches once a machine has been set up. Just so glad I stocked up on loads of metal over the years.
Regards from Reading. David and Lily.

The description suggests it may pre-date the Shortland design;the builder seemed to have based his model on Works drawings, and photos, etc.,of preserved locos. It is further advanced than mine!
