Hello. Does anyone have a design for a lever/bowden wire type drain cock setup (not steam or auto) for a standard Simplex. I have some ideas in mind however someone has probably already tackled and solved this one. I looked at the link above but couldnt find a design. Cheers

hi AMBSC,
it isnt difficult to arrange a lever and rod operated cylinder drain cock on SIMPLEX or SUPER SIMPLEX. i would suggest running it along the bottom of the frames just below the horn stays, then actuated by an 'L' shaped drain cock lever in the cab. you will need to add a few brackets at various points for cross shafts, though the pivot at the cab end need only be on one side. the cross shaft actuating the drian cocks would be behind the cylinders.
if you want to go down the bowden cable route, have a look at LBSC's 'Live Steam'/'Shop Shed and Road' book. personally i would favour a proper linkeage arrangement.
cheers, julian

Copy the Rob Roy arrangement but use a bowden cable in a copper tube rather than the linkage from the cab (LBSC approach?), (EDIT that's what Julian said). I'm guessing the mechanism has to be spring loaded to remove the need for two cables. Spring keeps valves closed?
