Hi folks, I've searched this Simplex General Chat forum for advice on this subject but can't find any, so here goes! a) What do folk use these days for boiler lagging and how thick, for a Simplex? b) Does the dome sit on the boiler and poke through the lagging and cleading? If so, doesn't it look a bit "odd" ? Or, does the dome sit on the outside of the cleading ? c) The height of the inner "dome", on drawing LO935 sheet 5, is shown as 2 1/4" above the flange but, if the dome sits on the boiler barrel, there isn't enough height inside it (the outer dome) when the thickness of the flange is taken into account! I guess I've missed something obvious but can't see it at the moment.
I've looked at several photos of finished models and really can't see how it "should" be done to look good. Sadly there are no finished models here for me to look at either!
Any help/advice/comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Nigel

Hello NIGEL-------- quite straightforward really }---- the insulation lagging surrounds the boiler, the thin brass Cladding (cleading) then surrounds the lagging....... with the inner dome protruding through a hole in both of those----- The outer dome then sits OVER the inner dome, but ON TOP of the cladding ( it is after all just a visual finishing piece and not structural.)... Most of the major suppliers carry an appropriate modern replacement material for asbestos these days..........
