Hi As jhaines suggested here's a new thread about a large scale freelance steam wagon. Back in about 1980 ish, in Worcester Park in Surrey there was a chap by the name of Len Morgan, who owned the model railway shop in the High Street, that built such a wagon. It was about 6ft long, had a vertical boiler at the front, the engine was I think a Stuart 5A, on the right hand side above the front wheel. Drive was by chain to a three speed ex motorcycle gearbox, and then to a two speed axle with a differential, taken from some kind of lawnmower. The bodywork was a bit like a Sentinal at the front, you could sit inside it to drive and there was rear facing seats at the back. It was road registered, and Len managed a sponsored London to Brighton run with it, the first attempt, failed due to clinker in the fire, but he made it on the second attempt. Around 1983 Len moved to Cornwall, and sadly I lost touch with him, does anybody know what happened to either Len or the Steam wagon?
Regards Trevor

Well,I saw one on the rally circuit in the late 90's early 00's.It was built on a milk float chassis, with vertical boiler in the cab,but between the seats(warm work, driving!)a 2 cylinder engine (about 3"x6")mounted verticaly behind the cab,3 speed gear box and prop shaft drive to the rear axle.I rather think it belonged to some one at the Klond i k e Club(N.Staffs/S.Cheshire crew)and was for sale at the time, but I haven't seen it since. If you could find an old milk float and a small boiler,it could be a 'cheap'ish way to make a steam waggon.I guess it would scale out at about 1/2 full size?It certainly went like s**t off a shovel! ;DWould have bought it myself, but at the time about £8-9k was a bit too much.
