Hi all, I recently got hold of a set of drawings for Don Youngs GCR "Director" Robinson 4-4-0, on the G.A. drawing it states "The following Don Young designs fittings apply and are not detailed" so how and where do I get these fittings drawings from?
The ones I'm specifically after are: (and I quote from the drawing) 2 IN No. INJECTOR STEAM VALVES (EX E.S.COX) 2 IN No. INJECTOR FEED CHECK VALVES (EX E.S. COX)
Any help would be appreciated!
Cheers Ben

hi ben, as don supplied these fittings ready made commercially ex gordon chiverton they arent shown on any of the drawings. if he showed how to make them he risked losing valuable custom for his fittings! my suggestion is to take some pics of BUTLER HENDERSON and the ex ROD GCR loco. ive a few GA drawings of GCR locos but doubt if they will show the fittings with sufficient clarity. some of don's GCR drawings have hideous design errors. cant remember if it's IMMINGHAM or JERSEY LILY where the driving axle has to have the eccentrics turned on same from solid plus undercut on the axle diameter. cheers, julian

Cheers Julian but at the same time, bugger! Has anyone taken over the rights to the drawings or manufacture of them, or even know where they might be? Ben

Hi Ben,
The injector steam valves and delivery clacks are detailed on sheet 10 of the Crab drawings.

I couldn't honestly tell you Ben. I'm not really very familiar with the differences between the various companies engines I think the Crab valves and clacks screw into a combined oblong bush on the boiler backhead if that's any help? John

hi ben, before you do that i would check that Horwich fittings are suitable, plus it is worth having a look at don young's JERSEY LILY series in ME which details the boiler fittings for that loco. ive probably got all the drawings somewhere i can copy and send you. im not a GCR fan, but believe that they made heavy use of standard fittings supplied by the likes of Gresham and Craven etc just because the DIRECTOR drawings state use E.S.COX fittings doesnt mean that they are actually correct for the loco. if don's DIRECTOR has the solid eccentrics on the axles and cut away axle you might consider it prudent to forget this loco as a project! cheers, julian

Hi Julian, Don't worry, I never saw it as a project, I just spotted the drawings on eBay and bid on them purely for research/fittings designs as the V2 as drawn doesn't have the combined steam valve and clack arrangement that the full size has. The ones on the director are different visually from the ones fitted to 60800 but the idea and internals are pretty much the same which is what I needed. If they happened to be an exact match then even better, unfortunately they aren't.
Cheers Ben

The parts you are looking for are detailed on Don's 'Doncaster' drawings and would be more appropriate for the V2. Send me a PM and I might be able to help...
