Does anyone have any good pictures of a Southern Railway L1, hopefully backhead and cab areas. I have a Maid of Kent / L1 and I want to change cab layout. I have plans to make a backhead clack valve so I can install a secondary injector. I'm in no rush for pictures, as I wont be starting on it until next year, as I have a Black Five replacement boiler project on at the moment. Thanks in advance!

That would be great if you have Dan. Mainly I thinking about the backhead clack valve, the boiler has a 1/4 x 40 spare bush, plugged at the moment. Intending on fitting a clack valve to it, for either the secondary injector or change over the axle / hand pump. As currently I only have two clack valves and really need to have a third. I might end up heading to Midhants railway and looking at their Southern Engines for a back head design, as they have U-Class and Schools.

hi dem132 i have the drawings for the SECR E1 4-4-0 and the L1 had the same ashford fittings - will see if i can find them and email them to you if you PM me your email address. whatever you do, the feed should be taken by an internal pipe to the front 3/4 of the barrel. worst place to feed water is on the backhead. cheers, julian
