I have been asked to help clear out a workshop. In there are these castings, I believe they are for a king but it’s not my field so can anyone identify them? Obviously they are for sale for anyone who wants them there is also a number of drawings which have probably been sourced from the NRM. The links are to drop box and it’s a first time effort so not sure if it will work or not snap 1Snap 2Snap 3Jim

Why post in the Modelworks general chat section?

Probably cos I did not notice it was Model Engineering clearing house > Modelworks > general chat,
Not Model engineering house > General > General chat
Perhaps a friendly moderator could shift it?

hi jim, the cab roof is interesting as looks like a KING/CASTLE. however the cylinders castings are very special as wasnt aware of any commercial castings like that apart from the Reeves / Shortland 51xx in 5"g. can you please measure up the wheels and cylinders for us please? might be peter rich's SAINT castings? cheers, julian

Could well be the Shortland design, but the cab roof isn't,as Julian has noted. In the box of castings (snap 3) I can see a pony truck side control top plate, and a fulcrum bracket;recognisable as I've recently machined them! Could this be for a Mogul perhaps, utilising the 5101 castings, which do look very familiar. Could you tell us a little more about the NRM drawings please Jim?

I realise I have made a bit of an rs of this. I was in the workshop to pick up some more parts and photograph what’s left to see if I can interest a dealer or two in cleaning it out.
Looking round for parts for the loco I have bought I came on this box of bits. Took a few quick snaps and did not think about the obvious questions people would ask.
So to the drawings
Cab sections no title looks like the same as the roof in the snap Grate and ash pan side view and sections again no title and no number Pony truck arrangement title block says engine numbers 7100 BR 4-6-2 class 8 Arrangement of outside cylinders and British Caprotti gear, same engine number and class as above Detail of coal pusher and piping to tender no title block Pipe and rod arrangement sections, no title block, 3 views back head, pipes to inside cylinder, and pipe work to outside cylinders Cab sections and parts, title block same description as pony truck, may well be the bottom half of the first drawing Arrangement of inside cylinders British Caprotti gear X 2 Two more loose drawings of levers of some sort
Generally all drawings are 3” to the foot and about 9ft long so I am off to wrestle them back into a roll.

The castings look like Reeves 5101 castings to me.

Hello Jim, I would agree with fostergp6nhp that the castings are for the Reeves/Shortland Prarie tank 5101 Class. You may be aware that the cylinder block castings are quite expensive items! www.ajreeves.com/prairie-cylinder-blocks-2999-p.aspThe drawings seem to relate to something completely different (shades of John Cleese!) maybe to do with the BR loco "Duke of Gloucester"?

Looks like it will be a couple more weeks till I get back to the workshop and get some more detailed snaps of the castings. But it seems like the choices are narrowing to their identity.
The drawings are sale pending at the moment.

Well finally got back to take some more snaps the small wheels castings have a number T60 / T61 cast on the back if that is any help? Jimmy,I still think the castings are for the Shortland/Reeves 5101 loco. The wheel casting numbers tally with those I machined some time ago.The cylinder castings look all too familiar! Still not sure quite what the 'yoke' castings,or the casting that looks like two hornblocks are for.

According to the 24th edition of the Reeves catalogue, T60 and T61 are code numbered 18/014 & 18/146. The former is shown as bogie wheels for Torquay Manor, and the latter as trailing wheels for GWR 2-6-2 51xx and 61xx classes. Not sure if that helps or not.

I'd be interested in those trailing wheels for the large Prairies 3ft 8ins x 10 spoke ( same ones on The Bear trailers ).........or am I too late ??

No I have not got round to selling anything yet. However I am going to put the whole lot on the Home Workshop site as a package. If they don’t sell, then I might have a look at splitting the stuff up.
