Hi one and all
I am anticpating a visit to the Harrogate ME Exhibition in May, can any of you please recommend suitable accomodation in the area please? Some other chaps from our club are booked into a 'Travellodge' nearby but I would prefer a B & B/Pub type affair if possible. I will probably be driving up from Luton on the Friday evening and returning during the day on Sunday.
Look forward to hearing the opinions on this one, and meeting up with some of the names from this board.
Cheers
Brian

I know this sounds inane, but try looking up the tourist info office, they have lists of B&B's etc. Youre close enough to the dales and north york moors parks to have some good B&B provision.
Also Ripon, Thirsk and Boroughbridge are all close to harrogate but tend to be more reasonable.
For eating out, the Malt shovel at Brearton and the General Tarlton at Minskip used to be excellent.
I used to live in Harrogate, so unfortunately don't have much experience of using the B&B's round there, but do travel a lot and use tourist info when I'm heading to an unfamilliar area.
I'm also really careful when speaking to the ownwers on the phone and avoid any who sound abnormally friendly (some bad experiences there... nothing dangerous, just weirdness)
Hope this helps Keith

Ahh I was born in Harrogate, although currently live some 25 miles away.
The advice was sound about staying in the surrounding area. Harrogate is expensive, given it's conference centre promotions so hotels and even B&B's are at business rates, and it's "Gateway to the Dales" advertising.
Pick anywhere 15 to 20 miles out, and if its not in Leeds direction (south), it will be cheaper and probably a good experience in itself. Competition is fierce. An easy 30 minute run in to the show.
Ripon and Boroughbridge are good (Not Thirsk, too many Herriot tourist stuff which pushes prices up) Try Pately Bridge, its lovely out there, or Skipton; both lovely drives into Harrogate through the Dales or Moors.
Wetherby would be ideal as its an easy run to the Yorkshire Showground. Unfortunately that is Leeds "Stockbroker Belt" so prices around there are eyewatering!!
If you stay in Boroughbridge go out and eat in the "Dining Room", in the cobbled square smack in the middle. Not cheap but superb food. My brother's 40th birthday treat last weekend
Regards,
John

Hi Bo I had to stop wearing it as it was causing too many delays at the airport security checks! They didn't know where to stop; please remove your shoes and belt..........please remove your helmet.....etc. Trouble is they didn't know all the names for the parts of the suit of armour! Strictly civvies these days Come on, where are all the good suggestions? I hear Knaresborough has a few good places. Cheers Brian

Knaresborough is very nice in itself, lots to see and do in the evening, very quaint. If you can find somewhere there in your price range, go for it; about 10 minutes from the showground if you avoid the peak traffic. Excellent pub in the main cobbled square that sells my sister and brother in law's beer.. www.roosters.co.uk and very decent pub grub. Proper monster Yorkshire puddings with the filling of your choice. Regards, John Google it Brian, you will find somebody there with internet presence.

If you need a local to help you locate somewhere Brian, I can send you a PM with the Mother-in-laws telephone number, they live in Bouroughbridge... Mike P.S., Sorry; no B&B - I'm staying there - going to the Show Ground as well!
