Guildford Model Steam Rally and Exhibition 2014 July 5/6

Haven't seen anyone talking about this event on Proboards yet? I'm planning on going on Saturday, supporting local clubs and all :-). I guessing the date change hasn't helped, plus has the admission gone up this year as well?

I will be there as usual both days giving moral support to my father as he wheels out the latest in his Make Do And Mend saga. (How to use everyday junk to transform a poor Unimat SL in to a treadle powered work centre....)

Dear Katie and I will be doing Sunday Plus dragging dear wife along as well.
So if anyone sees a tired dad with an excited Daughter and a Chinese Wife, that's me.

What a perfect day. Plus my dear wife enjoyed it all as well even to going twice on the railway! staying to the very end and helping lugg some CES metal back to the car.

Overall it seemed quieter this year, perhaps the poor weather on Saturday put people off and the clash with major sporting events on Sunday did not help. I prefer the week later as it then allows us to see the arrivals for Farnborough Airshow.
Generally I thought that the standard of exhibits was good but there were fewer in number but across a wider range. The steaming bays were almost empty and the number of road steam models seemed much reduced.
The trade support seemed to be thinner with a few regulars missing. A sign of the times.
Coming back to Italy was a nightmare as we booked to go through the tunnel but got caught up in the delays and had to wait for 4 hours.

As far as road steam goes it was Hollowell and Tewkesbury rallies as well
