I recently purchased a part kit of the Model Works Black 5. Although there is ¾ of the locomotive such as boiler with all fittings, frames with axle boxes, springs and brakes, cylinders and complete tender. There are lot of other parts I will have to make including the valves for the cylinders, exhaust manifold, blower and a lot of the pipe work. Can anyone tell me who's design these locos built to? There is also a lot of parts for a Winton Jubilee kit. It is easy to recognise some locomotive parts just by looking at them but not all. I have 20 plastic bags with parts in and the only refinance is a Winson code. Has anyone built a Winson Jubilee and if so do you still have the parts list? Thanks Steve R

Hi Steve,
I'm not sure the Black Five was built to any previous design and may have been Winson's own. It might be useful if you can get hold of a copy of Don Young's drawings for his version (the only 5" B5 design I am aware of) and you may be able to adapt some of that to your kit. Don also wrote a build series in his Locomotives Large and Small which includes drawings. I have copies if they would be of help to you.
One of our club members built the Jubilee but sold it a couple of years ago so the paperwork probably went with the loco. I'll ask him if he still has it though.

Hi spr001, I have a MW Black 5, it's a restore project though, as I've had to replace the boiler (long story!). I'm using the DY design as a guide. Like baggo it's to their own design, sadly I haven't been able to locate any drawings whatsoever for the MW design. But a few parts align with LBSC Doris design, I know the boiler outline does in parts. Have a look at this site, some of the Doris aticles available to download - www.john-tom.com/html/LBSCEngines.html

Hi Steve,
Sorry, I've only just seen your reply. If you PM me with your email address I'll get the Don Young articles to you.
