As a matter of idle curiosity has anyone made a loco chassis by welding it together rather than the traditional bolts, brackets and rivets method? Ron

Hi Ron,
I think Keith Wilson makes a lot of his Chassis this way. He has certainly talked about it in the past.
Chris.

LBSC used to braze the buffer/drag beams on to the main frames using oxy/acetylene, and described this in 'ME' way back.

Romulus has some welding in its construction
Steve
PS Anyone building one or do you know of construction notes on it (Romulus that is)

I use welded frames in 10 1/4" gauge - and it's quick and easy to do (as long as you can weld and have a welder of sufficient amperage....) The only thing you have to watch is that you plan and control the distortion. e.g. if you weld on to the side of a plate frame, it will bow towards the weld as it cools and contracts.
