Am I the only one that find the placement of that advert when you open a thread so annoying? When you open a thread it looks like there is nothing in it apart from the title post. Just thatr and an advert. I had to re-open a few because I tought there was something wrong.
I do not object there being adverts, just that this one is badly placed.

Isn't this one for 'Let it roll'...?

Tought about it, but it is about the forum itself. I won't complain if a mod moves it

I agree Havoc. I don't mind seeing the adverts at the top of the page, but this one is irritating. I thought it was a glitch to begin with, but now it seems to be there by design.

Actually, I can't see it.
Do you mean when you click on a thread in the index? Then go to the thread and the first thing that appears is a banner? I get nothing but the thread.

Apparently this is a trial by Proboards which will end on April 16th. After that the 'powers that be' will decide whether to revert back to the old system or at least give you the choice where you want the ads to appear. It would seem (surprise, surprise) that the general opinion of the change is negative. However, don't forget that the adverts (however annoying) keep this forum 'free' to use and to make it 'ad free' will involve everybody paying a subscription.

Understand that very well, and don't really mind there being adverts. Only this one is badly placed. Best would be to place them on top like it was. And they still are that way when you reply to a post. Little inconsistent, but if it is only a trial then we'll wait and see.

We get ads on TV , in newspapers , in cinemas , almost everywhere . This is part of modern life . We will get used to it and it will stay in the background .If we have to have ads to get free site then we have no choice . I think we can live with that and sometimes we may even be interested in some of them .

I agree with Havoc, the placement is annoying. It does seperate the original post from the replies but it is agravating, to me anyway!
It is brilliant that this board is free, by virtue of the ads just please put them back where they were at the top and we can get on with it again!
Cheers

Can I just add my tuppence worth, whilst agreeing advertising is probably needed for financial reasons, this one is in an annoying position. Does anyone over a certain age pay the slightest bit of attention to non specific advertising anyway? Ron

I guess that the definition of "badly placed" is where it interferes with seeing the thread. On the other hand, I bet that the advertisers rate that as an advantage.
Sadly there is nothing we as members, moderators or even owners of this board can do, apart from shell out lots of £££ to make it advert free. Whilst some members might be willing to contribute, others wouldnt. Would it be fair for the few to subsidise the rest?
Overall, I believe that the best solution is for all of us to ignore the adverts, unless, of course, you happen to spot one that offers something you want.
As for moving this post, I believe that Andy is the only person that can do that. Or to be more accurate, I cant find a way of doing it!

Just to confirm Alan's observation - I can't move the position of adverts, it's a proboards decision. I dislike the current experiment and have told them so.

Agree. Am I alone in thinking this blog is showing classic signs of dying - the quality has declined over the last 6 months? Many of the really good regular knowledgeable contributors now no longer bother with it.
Will it just degenerate into something like "Digital Spy?" i.e. the verbose people just take it over and make mindless chatter between themselves?
Regards, Tony.

Blog? Dying?
Can't see it myself. Although I've only been a member for six months I 'lurked' for a long time before that. There's a bit of ebb and flow, but that's only to be expected. Some days I've spent over an hour reading great contributions, some weeks there are slim pickings, but all in all it's a great site with good quality input.
One weakness I have noticed recently is that there's been far too much moaning about metres, Tony Blair, the state of the country... I don't think anyone is very interested in my opinions on the EU and to be frank I'm not very interested in anyone else's. But one thing we all agree on is the fun and value of turning, drilling, milling, bashing, pouring, stamping, bending, treating and painting lovely metal.
We've been given an excellent, free forum (with very handy archive). Let's stop moaning about what it could be and get on with some good posts, questions pics and ME-focused material.
Come on guys and gals, if we have got into a rut then let's pull ourselves out of it and get on with discussing good old-fashioned model engineering!

I agree with you Myford Matt, although some of more knowledgeable people from early on don't contribute as much as they used to there is now a much larger knowledge base although it might not have increased at quite the same rate as the membership numbers, now there are very few posts that don't have positive answers to them. I joined this site just before it changed from being an email service to the current web base and the number of posts each day is higher than we got each week then, true there is more posts with little knowledge or reason but I deal with this by ignoring it and trying to avoid doing it myself, and remember that it is very easy to view the past with rose tinted glasses.
back on topic, the only time now I notice the ads now is when I read the thread.
