HI there all I have just bought a simplex, you can find more info on my threads in the general chat. I was just wondering are there any locos which existed in real life which resemble the simplex. I am quite keen on turning my simplex into more of a replica. Cheers Marc

Afraid not - it is truly a freelance design. Sorry can't be more help. Ray.

I think most British 0-6-0 tank locos were inside cylinder so there's not a lot that look anything like a Simplex (or vice versa). I had a good look for something to base my 0-6-2 version on but drew a blank. There are a few non British locos that have outside cylinders you might have a look at. Put 0-6-0 locomotive into your search engine and see what comes up.

contrary to ray and john, london transport had a number of tank locos that closely resemble Simplex, and a friend of mine painted his in LT maroon with yellow lining out and lettering (steamingmess on here's dad keith). if you want further details let me know, cheers, julian

Hmmm.. my favourite engine is NCB Loco no 140 from Embsay, its a 0-6-0 Hudswell Clarke. It is a 0-6-0, but the cab would need changing and its stephenson valve gear, although thats not a biggy. There is this one on this vid: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4htf2o423Mc . It is the nearest i've seen, it looks as if it is the same class as the one above. Julian, I would love to you it if you know where I could find picks. Marc

Only difference I can see is stephenson as apposed to walscherts..... not a big problem. I would still like to see what you think of the NCB 140 Idea and only pictures of simplexes to get inspiration... I find mine a bit plain Marc

Right, I am not that fussed about it looking like that engine, I just wanted to find a class similiar. As, since I am in my final years of school, I do not think I will have the time to strip it down completely, sand and repainted. So I think I will just touchup what needs touching, re paint the buffer beam and then add lines and some sort of text to the side. What would be the best method for the lines?.... I really have no idea but I'm sure there is a good way Marc

Wow...look at this vid. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwdqegfXXMM First of all there is a lovely polish tank chuffing nicely, which incidently has outside walscherts.... but go to 6.00, what a noise and sight! This is another loco of the same class which closely ressembles a simplex Marc
