Hello, Can anyone help me with photos or scans of the boiler drawings and all bushes for the simplex? Want to compare some offers for boiler kits, but don't know what is needed and what is included in the kits. Thank you

i re-designed the super simplex boiler some years ago incorporating top feed plus crown stays that were silver soldered to the outer wrapper plus a few other details. my drawings were then used by reg chambers for professional construction. if you have a simplex chassis already made the cylinders are IMHO too big for the boiler in bore size so the super simplex boiler can be used with advantage. do not under any circumstances have any of the clack valve bushes where originally designed on the bottom of the backhead. if you are building this loco you ought to have the drawings anyway - ive got all of them for the simplex, subsequent alterations by martin evans, plus super simplex, plus my own re-design of same if you need any help. cheers, julian

I got the simplex yesterday and had the idea to use a polly4 boiler and smokebox. Any ideas if that can work, or not?

If it will fit then I shouldn't think there will be a problem. The cylinders on the Pollys are the same size I think and my experience is that the Polly boilers are very free steaming. Is there a problem with the original boiler?

John, I don't have a boiler for the simplex. The Polly is dismantled, overhauled and lost interest on it. The first thought to sell the Polly and buy a simplex boiler. But I don't think I get enough for it to get a boiler. Did you recognised that there is the smokebox from Polly on the chassis?

Sorry, I thought that was the original boiler in the photos! Yes, I recognise it now. I rebuilt a Polly 3 for someone so I should have done! It looks made for the job John

Surely the whole point of sending someone a Private Message is that the email addresses remain private. Otherwise all you're doing is sending an email!? The PM is handled by the forum not by email.
