Does anyone know if it is possible to get castings for the water pick-up scoop, on BR standard tenders, from anywhere?

You'll probably want to enquire with Adam.

Blackgates do Water Scoop Castings for a 5" Gauge Black 5 and "GALATEA". Both LMS and probably the same castings, but might be worth a look.

Yes I thought that!

Hi Nick.
Just found pics of the Blackgates scoops. Unfortunately they are nothing like the BR scoops. It's looking more and more like I'm going to have to get some special castings made to the BR drawings unless anyone else knows of a source of castings to the BR design.

Hi Bob, if you look at my photo's page's 3&4 Clan Build, you will see how easy it is to fabricate the water pick up scoop.

Hi Geoff.
Thanks for that info. Nice bit of work!! However, the works drawing shows what BR called The Top Casting, which is the fixed part attached to the underside of the tank, as transforming from a round section at the top where it meets the tank, merging into a rectangular section where it meets the scoop that is lowered and raised. Mike Jack contacted me to say he has a friend who has made a model of the castings. He will check that it is correct to works drawings and if so will cast me a set. Fingers and toes crossed that the models are right!!
Bob.

Bob,I do not know if it is of any use,But polly models do a very nice water scoop in 5 inch gauge,But is Gwr,I know that some standard stuff was very near or the same as other regions so might be worth having a look, you may be able to mod it a little, Garry

Thanks Guys. I am hopeful that Mike Jack will be able to use the models his friend has made, but if not, then I now have some other possibilities. Thanks again.

Hi Bob, Here's a picture of the model my friend has done. Without checking closely, it looks about what you're after. I'll make sure it does tie up with the dimensions on the works drawing and then make sure his model is robust before going any further with it. Mike

I might have one or three of those in aluminium, had no idea what it was. If you are interested I'll find a way of getting you a photograph - I currently don't do Flickr, Photobucket or similar.

Hi Mike.
That definitely looks spot on!
The grey scoop is a sheet metal part so I could fabricate that. The drawing says it is 1/8" plate, but scale thickness would only be 10 thou so it will have to be overscale thickness - probably something like 24swg mild steel.

Bob, I'm redoing part of the scoop. I was not happy with the way the loft from the circular flange at the top blended to the rectangular one at the bottom. This looks much better. Still have to rework the other hinges though. Mike

Looking good Mike. I've just downloaded the AutoCAD Fusion 360 free software. I must get down to learning how to use it! Trouble is that the working environment is nothing like the AutoCAD 3D I used to use years ago, and I'm not getting any younger!!!!!

Thanks Peter. I'll bear it in mind if Mike can't help me, though I've had an offer of some castings that would need quite a bit of modification, but would be better than anything fabricated from sheet.

Bob, I've spent a bit of time on the scoop model and got it looking right now. You mentioned the replaceable scoop part; do you have the drawing for that? What my friend has does not tie up properly. Also, I'm thinking that drawing probably has the other bits on it i.e. the shields and deflectors. Here's what I have so far Cheers, Mike

Hi Mike.
That's brilliant!! Sorry, I hadn't realised I'd not sent the sheet metal water scoop. I've just emailed it to you.
