I think there may be droves of Photobucket users transferring to Flikr. I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to sign up, they email a "key" to complete the sign up, the email takes longer to arrive than the time out on the sign up page

This is nothing new, there has been a limit in place for some time Photobucket may have just reduced that limit as part of a review of their terms and conditions.

I've just checked Photo Bucket's Plans which is what they are trying to get users to sign up to. From what I can see it will cost $100.00pa to continue linking photos. I currently have 2.1 GB of free storage of which I've used .5GBs. Checking some of the other threads here it seems some have been hit more that others, not sure why. Jim

Mine has not been hit yet but I am sure it won't be long. When it does I will be deleting all my photos and closing the account.

Taken from Photobucket T&C Available Plus Account Plans : Photobucket offers the following Plus Account Plans: o Plus 50 Plan: 52 GB of Storage for $59.99 / Year. The Plus 50 Plan does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting.
o Plus 100 Plan: 102 GB of Storage for $99.99 / Year. The Plus 100 Plan allows for unlimited image linking but does not allow 3rd party image hosting.
o Plus 500 Plan: 500 GB of Storage and unlimited bandwidth for $399.99 / Year. The Plus 500 Plan allows for unlimited image linking and unlimited 3rd party image hosting.

Yes....it's the third party hosting that is the issue, not the storage limits......I will check tbat I have back ups of all my images which contain more than just my ME images and then delete my account...a sad day indeed..

My interpretation is that linking means allowing a friend to see your photos, 3rd party hosting is placing links on forums such as this. I may be wrong..................

From Photobucket...
*What is 3rd Party Hosting? - Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.

Ok, this appears to be an issue with people using photobucket to host pictures that are displayed on third party sites like ours. Looking at the style of software photobucket uses, I'd say it's probably much the same as Flickr, and it won't surprise me if they don't follow suit. Presumably they get their revenue from advertisers who's adverts only get seen when people actually go to the photobucket site. Obviously, most people on third party sites rarely follow the link to the hosting site, so I guess they don't think they're getting enough value from us. I'm not sure if you can link photos to Dropbox or Microsoft's cloud, butt I have a feeling that you can't. I don't know what the answer is if all these hosting sites take the same decision. It's a stitch up really, after allowing it for so long. I don't think they realise the impact this is going to have.

If you go to the bottom of the photobucket terms and conditions, they have an email support@photoset.com I've sent them a message explaining the catastrophe this is to our site and suggesting they have a whitelist of forums that are exempt from this limitation. I'd strongly urge as many members as possible to email them and ask for the same.

Before I started my own website, I used Photobucket as a host for my pictures. I've just gone through and edited the first seven pages of the Britannia Diary, converting all the photo links to my own site. Regardless of what else happens, I will maintain this site until I go doo-laly or die, whichever comes first. It's not too bad for me, I think I only have another two or three pages to go. For Jim, John, Pete and many others it would be a mammoth task and I feel much sadness for all the work that has gone into building these records just to have it destroyed because someone got greedy. DDoS, anyone?

All the images that are now dosplaying the message can still be viewed by right clicking and then selecting open in a new tab, so don't rush out and delete all the emages you have in PB. It will be a pain but at least people can look through old threads with images in them.
I've not had anything come through but I have paid for a few years as I went over the 2Gb and currently have aboyt 35% used teh Plus20 plan which is upto 20Gb
Maybe they are targeting the "Free" users first
Roger, Dropbox start charging once you get to a certain amount of storage so same issue there.

That's not a problem for me, I pay for that anyway, it's my prefered backup for everything on my computer. I don't think you can create links for third party viewing though.

Hi all, the photo's of my fire grate and ash pan disappeared about a fortnight ago then re-appeared the next day, that is something I couldn't explain as I still live in the meccano age.

I have now linked all the pictures in the Britannia Diary to my website storage and deleted my Photobucket account. I also told them precisely what I thought of their latest move but it is not suitable for re-printing here.
As Tony suggested above, the only way to guarantee your picture storage stays accessible for all to see is to pay for your own web-space but I fear that many may find it not worth the trouble and expense. Pity, really, it may signal the demise of forums (fora if you live in ancient Rome) like this.

Having slept on it..sort of, I've decided to keep the photobucket account so that if anyone is interested they can still see all 800+ photos on Boadicea's construction.
I'll stick with the site too and will upload posts with photos directly from the camera via Tapatalk. It's in fact a lot easier doing it that way I find than working via a pasted link as with Photobucket.

With several thousand images spread throughout a lot of forums over a 15yr period I would have to go through them all to replace the links with ones to my own site, not easy when most of those forums only allow editing for a short time after posting. If I quit paying for PB then all those photos will then be a pain to view and may even loose the links completely if I stop paying as I already do. J

I've tried right clicking on the offending ransom image on a couple of threads in various forums and for me I cannot get to the Photosuckit account to see the images. It may be that the image would need to be stored with the URL, which I normally delete as it often puts a line across the thread.
