hi marc, re lining out, i dont think you can beat using a draughtsman's bowpen plus very cheap. all that is required is a bit of practice and a steady hand using slightly thinned enamel gloss paint. i havent a clue why you want BR transfers! but add to the loco whatever you want! my stock of transfers all came from Reeves and Ashdown Models (long since gone) and were all waterslide transfers so if ever you've made a plastic type Airfix kit will be very familiar how to use - though water slide transfers prefer a gloss paint finish as does a draughtsman's bow pen. painting and lining out is actually one of the jobs on a loco i enjoy! ive even painted my own crests and numbering and lettering. i must be totally daft! cheers, julian

You must havean extremely steady hand! Re-decorating my simplex, I'm not a fan of the red paint, but with schoolwork and my other projects, a re-paint is out of the question. The red paint is not in bad condition either, its just the smokebox of which I already have the special paint and the buffer beams, which I find horrendous in black. Those two parts I will re-paint, but the rest I think all it could do with is a bit of lining. Why I prefer BR... I do not know. I never considered it before, but after a trip to the NYMR last week, after riding behind their BR Q6, I've just become fond of the idea. Of course, It would look a lot better in black rather than red, but I'm not sure if there is a company which has signal red liveries. I had orginally planned a NCB livery, but then decided that with the windows I have on my cab, it would look out of place. Would love to change them to circle windows, but again my simplex is my in-service ready to run loco. I think the most important thing to do re-decoration is to get some yellow lines on it.

I would still prefer transfers though, not only are they easier to apply i imagine, they are also cheaper. Annoyingly maidstone engineering don't have 1/16" yellow transfers, only 1/32" which is too thing I think. They do these though : www.maidstone-engineering.com/transfers-water-slide/5-gauge/5-br-white-black-white-liningIm just not sure how it would turn out. Having said that the BR logo I was thinking off has white writing with black background, so maybe it could look alright. I really want to avoid two orders from different sites to reduce shipping. The reason I choose maidstone is because the blower they offer; its wireless and runs of small batteries so I think more economical as the batteries are cheaper. I'm also going to get some solder and flux..I think its something I just need to have, but i'm unsure when it comes to flux... should I go for tenacity no 5 or easyflo... i really have no idea if there are any differences or not.

RIGHT, it seems i'm lacking inspiration decoration wise; still unsure whether to go with BR logos and lining, or just an industrial tank. What I do know it is has to be cheap and not involving a re-paint ( schoolwork takes priority ) . Does any know of or have photos of simplexes? I've tried our trusty old friend, but nothing really inspires me. I do appreciate everyone's advice so much and everyones patience for my silly problems Marc

Fox transfers have plain yellow lining in 1.5 & 2.5mm wide strips. fox-transfers.co.uk/If you browse around their site you may find some other items of interest as their range of transfers is quite wide. Regards, Phil

There's some detail on this one that might be worth looking at.... ok, that's a lot of rivets but it does look nice.
