Guys, this is out of my control. Please have a read of THIS. It covers the three more common browsers. If people make an exception for this site (MECH) then the pictures should always show. If people don't wish to do this then it's show over, I'm afraid.

I can't afford to add SSL to my website (where these pictures are stored) so it looks like the end of the road for me on here. The website will continue to be updated, though.

I have gone online to read about this to see if I can fix my browser to see your pictures. I think the short answer is that I cannot, and that all browsers are moving to stop what is called mixed content, that is http:// pages loaded while on a https:// site. The reason is because if http:// content is hacked then the browser is compromised. You probably know more about this than some of us and I am only posting here because I guess others are asking the same question.

Some browsers might allow any of us to remove security to view mixed content pages, and if you have not updated your operating system for a few months then you may be able to see the pictures under the old rules.

It will be a real shame if you stop posting here Steve, I do have an extra interest in your subject as you know. Would you consider using one of the image posting sites that others are coping with? Additional effort I know and we understand if its not on.

Trouble is, Norm, over a thousand picture references would need to be changed. Then 6 months later, we have another Photobucket fiasco and it starts all over again. I'm looking for a cheaper DV SSL certificate at the moment and, if I find one cheap enough, I will upgrade my website. Then the problem goes away. Thanks for persevering. though.

A question please... usually when an image won't show, you see a broken window to show a picture should be there. I see nothing, just plain text, is this the same for everyone?

That's how it looks for me - just an over-large gap between paragraphs. Clicking or right-clicking in the space does nothing. I can expose the URLs for the pictures by clicking "Quote". I'm using the MS Edge browser.

I'm using Windows (10) Edge and have changed the security level under 'Miscellaneous', 'Read Mixed Content' to 'Enable' without any visible result. Puzzling!

Hi Steve, shame I cannot see the pictures I am using Microsoft Edge in Windows 10. But I have saved your website so will check in there from time to time. It would be great if you could just advise of any update but understand if not.

I'm using Firefox 74.0 (64-bit) on Windows 10 and I can see all the pictures. I just fired up Windows Edge, logged in and couldn't see any of them so it's definitely a browser issue. I'm now back in Firefox and can see them all. I had a quick look at the setting for Edge but couldn't see anything to adjust so came out of it.

After spending four hours at the computer today, I've managed to purchase a SSL certificate for the website at £11 for two years. Once I've worked out how to install it the pictures should reappear so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

My web hosts (123-reg), after suggesting that I look for a cheaper external SSL certificate, now tell me I can't install it. This has really pi**ed me off and I have just spent the morning searching for a new web host. The good news is that I have now found an all-in solution that is cheaper than my current one and will migrate my website across in the next few days. Once I have updated the nameservers addresses all the pictures should be back but it might take till the end of the week.

Great to see you back on the build, I did keep an eye on the website to see if you had come out of hibernation.

Question, how does the regulator fix to the boiler? My concern is you said it was made from Brass, I'm sure its a typo though for bronze ;-)

Hi Adam,

No, brass it is. It screws into a bronze adaptor which, in turn, screws into the large bronze bush soldered to the front tubeplate. It's easily replaceable if it dezincifies but that is unlikely to happen in my lifetime. Any future owner would probably fit a stainless steel ball valve and change the superheater arrangement. There's no point me saying I might live to regret it because, actually, I would enjoy making another one just as much as the first.

The brass is in contact with steam and I agree it should not be a major issue. Allegedly, Steve, everyone has had problems with those regulators not shutting and being too sharp. Anything you can design in to make a good seat (Graphite PTFE?) and a slow opening might be helpful.

The ball valves can be just as much of a problem as I suspect they are too large a bore and the common complaint is lack of control setting off.

Thanks for that advice, Norm. I will see if I can make a shallow taper on the small valve instead of the 45 degree seat and adjust for a longer time to lift the second valve.
