Domes and stuff. Well the remaining job list is getting smaller, I have to knock these over. To be honest I am getting tired of it, I want the loco done. The plan is test steam, do some carriage kits and get in the mood to learn how to paint. I hate paint. Learn how to line nicely. I hate painting on any thing, any size. Then paint this loco. There is a change in plans for the next project. It was to be a 5" loco,QR C17 #253 in detail but that is to held off for a few more years as it is a huge project. Next will be a 4 1/2" scale Foden steam lorry. I like Fodens, time I have one. Anyhow a lump of 32mm brass bar arrives.IMG_8697 by Darrell McCulloch, on Flickr The plan was to have two domes, one for the safety and one will be a QR style sand dome to cover the Goodall valve. (if the effing water pump is too much hassle, be done with that) But MAM said, "Should not the safety valve be under some thing like what is on my loco ? " Heck she is right. What was I thinking. I did say I was tired of it all and I am pushing myself to have some thing actually steam. Slitting saw, solder, mill, file QR style destination boards. Why on a NG loco. Just for kicks and giggles. One board will have on it. All has to work properly ATMCO. unsightly.IMG_8896 by Darrell McCulloch, on Flickr IMG_8897 by Darrell McCulloch, on Flickr IMG_8939 by Darrell McCulloch, on Flickr I think I am ready to reassemble all properly, sort issues that are discovered and test steam , oh I have to make the steam raising unit. That is next. I am sort of nervous about the test steam. It was like when I tested the chassis on air. I realised the time has arrived, but I was reluctant, but no, it is time , do it. I think it is because it is my first steam loco. Once my virginity is busted I will be OK.

Beautiful craftsmanship as usual. What a charming little Locomotive this is! Almost there! Thanks Roger. It has been good for me to learn and improve my metal working. I have a change of plan, I am holding off the on the 5" loco build as it will be a big job. Next is a 4 1/2" Foden steam lorry. I like Fodens and I will never be able to have a real one so it is time I got one, just that mine will be a bit over 1/3 size and I will be making most of it. I have the drawings and I actually believe it will be less work than this garden steamer as far as total hours will go. We have to redo the boiler for our code down here but no other design work is anticipated to the Rex drawings. I am now just reading your injector article in ME mag. I REALLY do want to make some injectors one day soon.

This winter when every one realises that Covid has not gone away just because they are tired of it and the politicians want you to be happy leading into the elections this year MAM and I are planing the extension to the Potters Orchid garden railway. Get stuck into that and that will be a big project. I want to test steam this loco, sort it, paint it and then put is aside till we can trip to the UK for a decent 3 - 4 month holiday and visit garden railway shows, visit more stuff, eat pasties, Welsh Oggies, real ales, do stuff and I volunteer at the Boston Lodge workshops, shovel ash and clean locos while MAM does pottery workshops. I want to knock over some 32mm carriage kits this winter and early next year make a start on the 4 1/2" Foden lorry. I like a plan and I like a project. Life is good. Crikey Dazza, Those domes are so shiny that your eyes will slip off them when you try to look at them. you will end up with gravel rashed eye balls or blinded by the glare. Barry.

Easter, home away from the Plague, away from the Mad Bruce Highway, being immersed in the Red Room . The Servo Block is fitted and all 5 twitch as they should. The boiler is lowered. Mr Spectre asks with frustrated tones "where is your shovel and fire irons for the steam test ?" "Oh we forgot about those, the lad and I will get cracking onto those after breakfast." My Spectre sighs, walks off muttering "Nuumptys" IMG_9352 by Darrell McCulloch, on Flickr
