This didn't happen today but I'm still reeling a little from it.... I was recently offered an LBSC Doris (Black 5) at a price too good to refuse. The owner brought it along to our club open day last Saturday, and when I tried to pay him he refused payment. He said I was part of the future of the club as a younger member (I'm in my 40s...) and it would be in good hands with me. He rebuffed all attempts at payment. I donated some coal to the club instead.
I feel very unworthy of such a gift but am delighted to take it on. It appeared to be siezed, but with very little work the pistons unstuck and the bores turned out to be perfect. The boiler looks to be an older build standard (it was made in 1965) but requires thorough inspection before use. I've removed the boiler so the club inspector can give their verdict.
Very shocked, very humbled, very lucky owner of a Black 5.

Have to confess seem to have lost a bit of interest lately but made the effort to get my Crampton and Manor steam tested the last couple of weekends, all passed. Managed to get a drive round with them too. Not sure why I feel this way? I’ve got other hobbies to keep busy with, must be getting old!!

Not so much what I've done today, as what I'm doing this weekend. I'll be attending the Goodwood Revival with our Fairey Swordfish Mk1, if you are there please come and say hello. I'll be dressed in a poor approximation of a Fleet Air Arm Sailor's tropical rig.

I did see the Swordfish was on the list for the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation trophy. Mind you, so was the Tempest at Sywell and that hasn't even flown yet!
Shame they can't do the air display anymore due to the post Shoreham rules, but hope you have a great weekend showing it to the visitors.
Regards,
Dan

We've got little chance, our aircraft barely gets chance to cool down so it is a little careworn round the edges. Lightly foxed in book terms. I'm just happy to be there. Too hot for my sailor suit though!

I spent the day chasing leaks. (well the engine was built by a chap called Tegwin) Gauge glass, regulator glands, pressure gauge to name three minor leaks. I have a major regulator leak so the water pressure goes straight up the blast pipe. I have lapped the slide with solvol, it looks perfect but still leaks

Presented by Noel Edmunds no less! Everyone there was dressed in very smart suits to get their prize, I collected ours looking like a bottle of Matey....

My boy has recently completed his training for Wildcat helicopters and he brought his work rig home for his girlfriend to sew on his new badges. He's not had tropical rig - arctic more appropriate I think. Must arrange that viewing at some point. Been a bit silly here with us trying to sell our house and downsize. Pete.

A wonderful moment after Lunch when Lily announced "That it was far too hot to dig out more driveway and a few hours in the WORKSHOP would be far better!!!" So I milled out some bits of B.S.450 which is based upon a lawnmower? Lovely sat at the milling machine till 5.30.
David and Lily.

Scratch my head wondering what two bits of bar where for then realise the axles I've just made didn't need making for an engine I had bought ... hmmph

Unbelievable! I nearly fell over at 14 quid. Pete. Sounds about right. £42 for 3 bags from Signal Fuels the other week.

Used to drive past there regular on the X5, then the X7 and the college bus. I don't miss taking an Optare round Cwmgrach.
