You get what you pay for... oh I forgot you guys didn't pay anything :-) don't know what all the fuss is about? If you so keen to have reliable service get your own server and don't relay on "free" stuff. I have used Picasa in the past (now totally messed up by Google), I am using Flickr, but have no illusions that it all can dissapear at the whim of the people who make it available!

That would be a shame Pete, as I can't see anything on facebook, and I do enjoy seeing your progress. There are however a lot of image hosts out there on the 'net, so you can always pick another one with more favourable terms; I know several people who use tinypic.com and seem to like it. I upload all my images to my own server, which is the simplest for me. Hi Lisa I'm sorry, I missed this post, are you sure that you can't see FB? one advantage of FB is that it gives me details of who's following the page and their location, I have a number of people from your part of the world following the build. Hope it's just a glitch and you can find a way to view FB.. kind regards Pete

...are you sure that you can't see FB? ...Hope it's just a glitch and you can find a way to view FB... AFAIK you can't see FB without joining the racket and some of us will never get anywhere near it (for reasons that are outside of the discussion in this particular thread). It is a shame indeed that increasing numbers of people are abandoning good old forums (like this one) for FB.

I have used Picasa in the past (now totally messed up by Google), I am using Flickr, but have no illusions that it all can dissapear at the whim of the people who make it available! It's all the historical stuff that is now unavailable. Current contributors can make new arrangements but people who created threads in the past may no longer be participating. That doesn't mean their earlier contributions are now worthless, indeed there are countless threads out there over a massive range of forums which are still of great interest to many, but now spoiled because of the actions of one greedy company. If they had said that all FUTURE uploads have to follow the new regime, then people would have had a choice. It wouldn't be difficult for Photobucket to set up a new numbering system that allowed legacy photos to continue to be linked but new material needing to be accessed directly within their webspace. Fat chance of that happening, though. I've completely deleted my account with them and linked all my Diary pictures to my own facility. Regards, Steve

You are absolutely right Steve, about the effect it has on the past postings, and that is the reason why some forums (who can afford it) insist on all the attachments being kept locally on the forum. As for the possible (better) ways Photobucket could have handled it, Google is an example - when they killed Picasa web albums, they allowed the links to continue. The only thing you couldn't do was to edit or add to the existing albums.
I understand very well what all the fuss is about :-) but all those who thought their stuff was safe at some "free" facility were naive (at best).

Well it works up to a point, but not as we are used to. If you click on that link, it opens the photo in a new window. I've also had a look at Flickr but I can't find a way to upload photos. I'll have to do some more searching.
Bob.

The link didn't work for me Bob?...in other news I'm currently in the process of downloading all of my albums from PB, I have done 4470 and the car, 4472's album has been processing since 9:am this morning, no sign of it being ready yet, I have around 10 more albums to sort out so I guess it's going to take some time....hope I finish before PB goes belly up.....they seem to have upset an awful lot of people.....as the saying goes, you reap what you sow........

Pete I'm pleased to see that you can now access your pictures, Pete. Last night I was able to see all your albums and was going to offer to download and temporarily store them for you but that might have stretched my facility somewhat. Now get them backed up to flash disk, external hard drive, whatever, for your future peace of mind. Regards, Steve

As bambuko says, you can only see view it if you're a member, and I wouldn't sign up there for various reasons.

Thank's Steve...actually I do already have copies but they are all stored together among the hundreds of others that I don't actually use, I just select the best/most appropriate image for each update. This is why I wanted to download the albums as they are all in order and relate to the build...I've just succeeded downloading the largest which is 4472, 726MB, first attempt failed, I received a message stating something like' Google Chrome ran out of memory while downloading my file' I have no idea how that's even possible but it stopped my download anyway....second attempt has just finished....hopefully it got the lot... Pete

Just been playing around with Flickr. Couldn't work out how to load photos to albums but finally worked it out. Then the problem was how to get a URL code to post a photo. Well I think I have worked it out so here goes.................. Img_1591 by Robert Shephard, on Flickr Bob

hmm..I'll keep trying with the test [img src="http://i.imgur.com/Mnj3TfX.jpg" src=" " alt=" "] imgur.com/9iil9Oqok...I got there in the end...I'll see how I get on with this site, account is up and running..I seem to be having issues getting the various shared links to work but by right clicking the image and copying the web address I can get it to work...I'll have a play to see if I can work out why the shown links won't work..... cheers Pete

hmm..I'll keep trying with the test... cheers Pete The image is showing as 327 x 184 pixels which is not much bigger than a thumbnail. Might be worth checking how your pictures are being received at upload time. Regards, Steve
