I disagree. As long as they have lots of photos stored on their servers, they can say to their advertisers "We have x million pictures", and the advertisers will think that they have a potential audience there, and continue to provide revenue to PB.
If, however, everyone takes their pictures off the site (and I just downloaded all my albums to an external hard disk on my PC, and then deleted them from PB), the advertisers may have second thoughts about advertising. And as we know, 'free' sites are only free because of the advertisers.

Hmmmmm. After six emails from peebucket threatening impending doom and despondency I note that all my photos are still displayed on this site. Am I just further down the queue or is it because I don't post a lot of photos?

I would hope that, where possible and time permitting, the previous links and threads can be updated by the OP's with the new hosting site links. This is a real pain I know, but would help newbies like myself when researching build info, techniques and data of bygone times.

What may be easier and more direct for someone such as yourself embarking on a new build would be to PM the author of the post and ask the questions for the issues you're having problems with. I think that way you'll get a lot more help and information.

One of the key things for me is just to look through a thread and see how various builders have gone about things. One of the key elements are the photographs that can provide that "oh that's how they do that" moment. The current br1 tender builds are a case in point. Unfortunately if the photos have gone it's hard to picture in the minds eye from the text when you have little experience in that field. I would urge anyone who has lost their pictures to try and provide fresh links, I know it could mean a lot of work but your threads are vital to us newbies who are taking our first steps down this road

I agree Mike & Jim.
having finished Steve's Britannia read we are fortunate that it hasn't suffered from PB-itis!
However, some of the links contained within do suffer with the lost links, and there are quite a few of them so I felt somewhat uneasy in asking the question. Especially at this early stage of planning as I'll no doubt have forgotten everything by the time I get the files out !

Have no worries Jools the folk here are always willing to share their methods either via an open post or a PM. On the 'lost' PB links I believe that if you right click the PB overlay you can still access the photo in the post.

I'm not paying a cent to PB, they have wrecked hundreds of forums, not just this one. The photos here, and on most forums are not for commercial use, nobody's making money out of them, and they were offered free by the then owners of PB. isc

Whilst not a ransom, when viewing this forum in Firefox I now get a request to log in to a yahoo account. Does anyone else get this annoying change. It doesn't happen on an iPad so just have to resort to that. It's not that I haven't got a yahoo account , it's just aggravating When I'm using my PC and fancy a break from what I am doing. It occurred first a couple of weeks ago. Haven't tried Windows Explorer or other software to see if the same thing occurs. Just have to change browser till I find one that doesn't. I did do a quick search to see if anyone else experiences the same problem and has a fix but no luck so far. i meant to say that this is in respect of the photos that are hosted on Flikr

I use Firefox and don't have that problem but it could be that I selected My Yahoo as my home page. Firefox also provides an app that removes the Photo Bucket mask from older posts or when you the PB site to view you albums if you have them there.

I get dozens of PB emails every month, making various offers. The only time I see them, though never read them, is when I go in to my Junk Mail folder to empty it. That's all PB is good for!!! Junk.

Jim I have installed the Firefox app that lets you see Photobucket , I think that Yahoo as you home page is why you dont have the same problem. Might try thyat as I have a Yahho aacount as i belong to a couple of Lathe groups. I wondered how commonplace the 'problem' is and whether any one knew of the availability of a solution. It seems to be since Yahoo, Flickr etc became one.

It has been a bit on and off for the last 10 days but working fine as I type this and I have been able to access my photos at various times over the holiday period so hardly gone tits up a
By deleting your photos you will make them impossible for others following an old thread to access, at least leaving them there makes it possible to gain access even if it means going direct to PB.
If you don't have copies of the photos elsewhere and need to download them then that is hardly Photobuckets fault, I have all mine stored in several places and in the cloud.
