If you look closely at the image that Photobucket shows, it says that you are using 100% 3rd Part Hosting. My Photobucket links are still working, which I assume is because I have hundreds of pictures there which are not linked into other sites.
Maybe the answer is to load your account with lots of pictures that are not linked???

Not sure that that's the case, Steve, I have a lot of pictures on my account that aren't linked to anything?.....for me it's a matter of principle now, I won't deal with companies who treat their customers in such a way....I'm sure that they are feeling the pinch now, going by the amount of activity against them....PB has become the all-time douche bags because of this fiasco....serves them right IMHO.. Its happened to me in the past few days, I've downloaded everything from their site to keep the filenames and folder structure with the intent of moving to another provider. Then it will just be a case of editing the post and replacing the first part of the link. e.g.
img src="http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/xx112/doubletop/Dart/DSCF1808_zpsayih5myz.jpg"
would become something like
img src="http://other-service-provider.com/albums/doubletop/Dart/DSCF1808_zpsayih5myz.jpg"
which is just a cut and paste rather than have to find the image again and link it up
What they don't seem to be doing is thinking. If they were to (say) intitialy render an ad instead of the image they'd have the advertising and we'd have the free service. YouTube do something similar.

This is a 'kin nightmare. Flickr is out because Yahoo doesn't like 2 accounts on same computer or with same backup email address, I have a sky email for work which is also Yahoo. If I log out of email and then log into Flickr (or vice versa) I get a "suspicious activity" message, I have to verify my email and change my password. I have tried Imgur, got all my photos uploaded then tried to separate them in to albums. I created an album called Greeves, another called BSA and one called Model engineering. If I add photos to one album it overwrites all 3 albums with the same photos GRRRR

This is a 'kin nightmare. SNIP I set up an Imgur account, posted one picture to go on here, and received an asinine comment from some ignorant plonker! I've deleted the account and I'll find another way... John

Imgur seems to be more aimed towards sharing photos to the whole web. My feeling at the moment is to delete my Flikr account then open a new one using my work email log in details

On imgur make your albums 'private' that way your photos don't get published to the plonkers on the internet but are able to be embedded in your forum posts.
It appears you can fix your avatar by uploading it to the forum. Just select 'profile', 'edit profile', 'upload avatar'. No need for a third party site

I have opened an account on imgur but I haven't had success in linking pictures. I have followed the imgur instructions on embedding photographs for third party use but when I copy and past the link into the forum is results in an error message stating that the link is invalid. I am sure that it's finger trouble, but any ideas in what I am doing wrong. Looking at the structure of the pasted link it does appear strange and not what you would expect.

Brian Hover the mouse over the image you want to copy into a post. a chevron appears in the top right corner, Select the chevron and a drop down list appears. Select 'get share links'. select 'copy' for the option 'BBCode (Forums)'. Paste that directly into your forum post 'CTL V' Job done, works a treat. Pete

Ladies and gentlemen, a photo hosting site has just shafted most of you.
You think the answer is to go to another hosting site? I suggest it is folly to put your destiny into the hands of someone else any more than you have to.
If you are moving your stuff then I think it is easy to pay for your own webspace and move your stuff into it.
You can also upload articles etc., and when someone asks a question, you can give them a URL to your article - as I have done several times on this forum.
It's easier and cheaper than you may think.

The problem with hosting your own images is that they all get lost when you pass on. I honestly don't think there's an ideal answer to this. Personally, I think the debacle with photobucket will put off other photo hosting sites from following suit. At least, that's the hope.

I take Tony K's point about having your own website but on the side of expediency I've shifted my pictures to imgur and now fixed all the links to my posts with images on this forum. It wasn't that hard, just needed a bit of self discipline to work thorugh it, see Steves post on uploading images and my ammendment.
Now to look at the other three forums I subscribe to...

I can't work out from these posts whether the Photobucket scam applies to all Photobucket users who post on this site, or only to those who have posted a large number of pictures. I have only posted a few, but I don't want to waste time trying to post more if they're not going to work. I haven't time at the moment to experiment with new sites.
Can anyone enlighten me?

I got an email today stating "some features of my account will be disabled" I replied, reminding them that I had agreed to a set of T&Cs which they have now changed. I pointed out that this is somewhere between unethical and immoral, based on greed, and will not entice customers to open their wallets

I would like to wish all the staff of photobucket a happy impending redundancy.
