Yours is looking lovely John, whether it is right or wrong as far as I am concerned it looks just right for a loco of that vintage. Cant wait to see it in steam.

Back to Work!Just got back from an enjoyable three days camping and I thought I'd get gently back into the workshop, so I made this little gadget! Held in from inside with a black M2.5 cap screw so you won't see it. I have to drill the hole before I do any lining or black edging... John

Looks great, how did you fix the spike on the top?

Looks great, how did you fix the spike on the top? The spike is on a 3mm SS spindle, holding the other components on with solder paint. John

Changing to an Oil Based pen was not a good idea! Here's the repainted cab, waiting for its white lines, for which I bought some UniBall white markers instead of the POSCAs I'd been using, the reason being as these are oil based I wouldn't have to 'fix' the lines with lacquer. Here's the paint markers. One leaks at the body/tip join, another blobs paint everywhere trying to start it, and the tip fell out of the other one! www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00M0NYEZ2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I have some more POSCAs on order... Changing to an Oil Based pen was not a good idea! Thank you for the prompt critique of the oil-based pens, John. I have already bought a couple of orange POSCA pens to do the fine lining and was going to order some oil-based ones to try as well. This will save me wasting a tenner on something that is not fit for purpose. I followed your link and found that the most recent reviewer, back in June, thought they were rubbish, too.
Regards, Steve

I used to use those for writing the pattern numbers on my wooden patterns, when I was doing that sort of thing. They were about good enough for that, and didn't rub off at the foundry, but it was probably expecting a bit much of them to do a nice job of lining your loco - it deserves better!.

Forgive me for asking something that may have been covered before, what kind of laquer works for the posca pens? Too many times in the past I've laquered something in fine detail only to watch it dissolve what I was trying to protect...

Forgive me for asking something that may have been covered before, what kind of laquer works for the posca pens? Too many times in the past I've laquered something in fine detail only to watch it dissolve what I was trying to protect... Hi Jon The acrylic paint in the marker is inert as far as I can tell. The problem arrives with the lacquer being incompatible with the base coat that the line is sitting on. Aerosol clearcoats can be pretty aggressive towards ordinary enamel, as I've found out...

Another Legacy Issue!
The drawbar slot in the tender is 6mm too low relative to the locomotive. One of them is the wrong height but I'm not remaking the loco rear beam! I shall have to enlarge the tender slot or make a new beam. Grr... I've also put the first new coats on the tank. Soon be finished! The Axlebox covers seem to have turned our OK though.

Hi John
6 mm isn't a lot, are you sure that both loco and tender are sitting at their correct ride heights? Paint looks good...

Would a “cranked” drawbar work? Not ideal I know but....
Ahh, should have typed faster but am watching Rob Bell on tv, walking his lost railway at the moment!

It works!
Just a few seconds of video to prove it with my good friend David at the controls. I'll make a better video later. The blower and regulator work perfectly, my own design drop grate drops as it should, and it goes like the clappers. There is a slight leak on the sight tube glass top joint, the injector doesn't pick up, and there is some water about the place...and that's about it! BTW the white paint lining pens arrived just now so I can line the cab, add transfers and it is finished! I don't like this steaming business: it gets awfully dirty! Please excuse the jerky handwriting...😍 www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qpcXOJfegE&feature=youtu.be

Well done John, it must feel good to have made this milestone. Cannot wait for my own, although that is along way off. Dave Yes, it does feel good. However, I'll feel even better when I've sold it and used the proceeds on more frivolous pursuits, like a long winter rental in a villa in Spain! John
