I don't know about this one but many Emco lathes are actually made in China.
When Emco started manufacturing in China they sent samples out and various chinese manufacturers started copying them under their own brand! Hence the similarity - Emco parts are often interchangeable with chinese ones and the chinese lathes have the same design flaws.
Of course buying Emco one has european quality control which is (sometimes) better than chinese.
