Guys,
I pushed the boat out a month or so back and bought a subscription to ME. The promise of 'free' copies and not having to get off my arse and get them being the final push.
So far I've had one free copy in the form of two-off of the first expected copy. Things settled down on the next issue but so far I've not seen the December 23.. issue and it wasn't in W.H.S. today.
My man around the corner thinks he's missing his copy too. Anyone else not got their Christmas ME?

Steve
I too have not received the latest issue and feel that with the Christmas rush we may have to be a bit patient.
Seasons greetings

Brian,
Thanks for the confirmation, that's at least three of us now so I'll regard this as good news.
I was starting to worry that I'd be going through Model Engineering cold-turkey on my own and before Christmas. I've got the other two to work through, just found EiM a bit light this month.

Hi All Anyone else heared the rumour that Highbury house shares were suspended on the stock market a week ago monday and that the MD has just resigned? Be a shame if Model Engineer dissapeared.

According to the London Stock Exchange Highbury House shares were suspended on Monday 12th December. The company has debts exceeding £27m and presumably will be put into administration. However there is a slight chance that existing management might make a bid for the business. Otherwise after around 100 years 'Ours' will disappear. That will just leave Engineering in Miniature which is not the same magazine as ME is/was.

Maybe someone will try and merge EIM & ME in to one magazine. Who knows ?? I must admit it would be a shame to lose such a specialist mag.

This will be bad news if it is an end to ME, and I just renewed my subscription!

I too have not received my December 23rd issue of ME - but that isn't surprising since I've had to contact the Subs Dept and request replacements for two other issues missed and refund for one I had to buy in WHS. When you speak of Higbury House being suspended, this may not be the part that publishes ME. In fact, I read the HH and H Leisure web-site info and it's not obvious who's whom or who owns whom since some of Highbury was sold off.

Hi All,
Firstly, a very Happy Christmas to you all, and a peaceful and productive New Year ;D Notwithstanding the comments from others on the subject of ME, in case any of you didn't see it, I quote from the ME of 5th August 2005:
"Eagle eyed readers will have noticed that Model Engineer is no longer part of Highbury Leisure. Most of that company has been sold, but the sale did not include the sub-group of special interest magazines that includes ME. This group, including ME., is not now for sale. With the sale of Highbury Leisure, we are now part of the parent company Highbury House Communications plc.
Everything else remains unaltered. All the same people doing the same jobs."
Lets hope that ME is in fact not part of the Company now in financial difficulty
Geoff

All
Seasons Greetings and Happy modelling in 2006
Just been checking HHC plc and yes, their shares are suspended and the chairman has resigned effective 12 Dec. So, despite the fact that ME and MEW are not part of Highbury Leisure it looks like Highbury House Communications plc - of which they are part - is in trouble.
BTW. Anyone know why Chris Heapey's web-site is not accessable - is Chris ok ?

Anyone know why Chris Heapey's web-site is not accessable - is Chris ok ? Hi, Chris Heapey's site ceased back in February, and there was talk that he was having trouble with his site hosts, or something like that. We assumed he would continue with another server, but just recently his site has vanished, and it looks like it's for good. I emailed Chris months ago, and I expect others did too, but never got a reply. You may or may not know that after the demise of Chris' site, a new site was started: www.homeworkshop.org.uk/This site is similar to Chris' one. As for his health, I regret that I can't answer that one, sorry. Geoff

As Highbury House are in trouble does that mean that the M E Exhibition is still on or will it not be taking place.

MEE or Not MEE - that is the question. Well, that's what we were debating at the Welling and District MES Boxing Day Steam-up. Probably no-one could find out until tomorrow.

George,
I was also a bit worried about the MEX but didn't like to raise the nightmare scenario now I'm all organised to go.
I'm hoping that being the 75th and being this close the thing will have a life of its own and too many necks are on the line for it to be pulled.
Then again I did take out my first subscription to ME about a month before dates reported above so it's any one's guess.

I don't subscribe to any of the mags but occasionally buy one over the counter, the ME wasn't in either of the W H Smiths locally, but the MEW was, hope it survives, it would be a shame if something that's been around so long was to disappear. Ron

The Dec 23 to Jan 5th issue #4263 just plonked onto my hall floor this morning. Is this good news or its last flap I wonder?

Yes I also have received the ME this morning. Lets hope that this will not be the last and "ours" continues to provide us our reading and guidance.

My last copy received, via subscription, was 4261 (25Nov- 8Dec). After many attempts to get through to the subscription dept today (Wed)- there must have been many others trying to chase up their mag - I was 'assured' that a further two editions had been mailed to me since then. Anyway they tell me they will send again the missing copies. We will wait and see! Mike
