Hi Stephen From looking at the original picture of your frames just after you cut them out, it does seem that the rear axlebox is perhaps half an inch forward from where it should be. modeleng.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=downloadattachmentpage&board=simplexgeneral&thread=4438&post=42803You may well get away with it by modifyng the ashpan and that 3/16 hole in front of the rear axlebox cutout is for the pin to hold the ashpan in place, that may have to move forward as the wheel will probably hide it. Of course you'll have to shorten the rear coupling rods. Remember Simplex is a "freelance" loco, and the actual position and size of stuff was done arbitrarily by Martin Evans, so don't be too despondent. DJ

Thanks for all the replies. The distance is is axactly wrong by 5/8". The mistake I made was that I measured to the centre line of the axle box and then added the 1 1/4" to that. I must have checked it about twenty times to make sure it was right and i still messed up on part. I did think about modifying all the other parts but decided that was to much hassle. Also I know that there are a few issue with to many holes, such as the additional holes for the reversing stand. So I have decided to start again on the mainframe. This time though I am going to cheat and I have ordered a set of laser cut units for 28 pounds. Not particularly happy about using laser cut as I wanted this to be done form scratch. Oh well at least I can carry on. I have also picked up casting for the cylinders, chimney and dome for a 70 pounds. Regards Stephen.

Stephen , don't worry about from scratch , there is no such thing at all , most of us ( I am included ) buy castings ,injectors , pressure gauges ,some fittings ,hard ware ,paint laser cut frames and so on , you still do all other work and that is around 70% and that is what most people do ( the ones that are building from scratch ) ,others do less and still is an achievement ,every one to his /her ability and time available .I am sure you will finish your engine and be proud of it .
