So where is all the spoil from the pool going? Why not use some to build up the ground and take out the 1 in 20 on the bank...

Ha!! It's being used for landscaping and a water-fall feature!! Anyway, now I have sand filled epoxy on the track, I don't need to re-grade. Much more fun getting the flying cinders when the loco is working hard coming up the incline.

Hi John, how's the pool coming on? It looks as if you're getting plenty of rain to fill it, at the moment. It's cooling down a wee bit here now ( a mere 28C at midday!) but no rain yet. I plan to get going again on the Simplex this weekend, after the long hot summer break so should have some piccy's to share soon! cheers Nigel

Hi Nigel - pool is a bit on hold just now - some meddle-maker is trying to cause me a bit of flack - however, I have respectfully turned down the "kind" (read aggressive) invitation from these silly people until they get their fat little bottoms off their chairs and come and see for themselves rather than "reliable source" hearsay crap!! ;D ;D DJ. Hi John, sounds a bit like here - "they" get away with murder, but we have to cross every t & dot every i !! Wish you luck in the struggle. Moto of the Royal Engineers, I believe is: Improvise, Adapt & Overcome - a good path to follow, in my humble opinion. Regards, Nigel

Hi DJ They probably have you down as operating a full size railway as well (you have got to transport your poultry to market somehow ) ;D Q. when does a hole in the ground become a swimming pool Q. how many chickens does it take to become a poultry farm Paul Yes Paul - I have studied the legislation recently, but as usual, this country doesn't seem to be sure whether a poultry is 1001 to 40,000 birds or 2001 upwards - makes me wonder what one of the rich guys at the north of the island is classifed as - he runs 200,000 chickens. As for the hole in the ground - it is a rainwater sump - presidential decrees in 1989 and 4 years ago strongly recommend people saving rain water for irrigation, and there is no mention of a ban on swimming in the sump!. And of course you would have to line out the "sump" also tile the surround so that it didn't collapse. Then perhaps add a little clorine to stop any live stock forming, also a pump for emptying / circulation again for health reasons. A stainless steel ladder to enable anybody who fell in to get out. Then a dressing room to enable the person who fell in to dry off and change into dry clothes Then a bar so that the person who fell in could have a brandy for the shock

One other thing you might want to consider is a diving no sorry a reach board to enable recovery of said person that has inadvertently fallen in

Here you go Paul (weldsol) following your instructions. Now waiting for the white marble dust to contrast with the tiles and give a non-slip surface. DJ Attachments:

That's not a tarpaulin for keeping the sun off the drinks.. that is a man overboard sling for getting anyone who fell in out of the water ;D We have one just like that on our boat.

Hello Doc I agree with what you say but I was on about building a swimming pool with no bother.

Hi Mike - yes the workers are pretty good considering the temperature in the sun is unbearable - can't walk on the bottom of the sump in bare feet!
And Ewal, I think your local planning departments and elf 'n safety would create far more hassle than I'm getting here.

Hi DJ I take it the steps at the end are in fact are not steps but graduated level indicators so that you no how much water you have left in the "sump"

Progress has been a bit slow of late, but here's a picture of the rain-water filler for the sump. DJ Attachments:
