Is that where you'll have to bribe...er.....sorry, entertain the local officials when they come to inspect it?

A bit off topic, but for those of you who haven't seen it on my website, the pool is now completely finished. Managing 30 lengths a day, but with no noticeable reduction in the belly - maybe something to do with the rehydrating beer! DJ The AJG on the bottom doesn't refer to my acerbism - my wife's name begins with 'A' and the 'G' is the initial of the family name!! Bit OTT really!

After the typhoon and the Simplex being under water for a week or so, I decided to try a steam-up last sunday . Sadly, only managed one lap with no water feed to the boiler. Clacks were completely corroded and the injector clogged with muck. So I've cleaned them all up and reassembled ready to try another steam this coming sunday - fingers crossed.

Yep - good luck John and great to hear you've got the track repaired. Hope the house and garden are recovering as well. Let us know how it goes.

Tried another steam up yesterday, but even after cleaning all the clacks and injector, still couldn't keep the boiler full. The injector just won't work. So back to the spit and take off the axle pump and re-bore it a bigger diameter and to hell with injectors. Will keep you posted in a week or two.

DJ , the big double acting pump on Simplex should supply more than the boiler needs , it must be a problem in pump clacks , not the size or leaking ram . Just a thought .

Injectors should work OK, but can be tempremental
(I like two different methods of water feed, usually pump & injector.)
I suspect that there might be a problem with the existing set up rather than the pump being too small.

Thanks for the comments. The pump has always been marginal as I did my own design after the problem when running on the spit in Malaysia and the shaft bent:- and the injector was all corroded after the storm being under water for some time. I cleaned it up with acid, but it may have damaged the cones. I do have another injector which I can swap, but I want to get the pump off and inspect it, so it's onto the spit again. Cheers DJ

Looking at that picture, "back to the drawing board" springs to mind!
I agree with changing the injector, and also, I suspect a complete rebuild of the pump is needed.

Hi Alan
That bend happened in Malaysia. I initially thought that the pump was too big a bore, so I sleeved it. In fact, it transpired that the piston was too long and was completely covering the outlet at the end of the stroke - hence the seize up. I now intend to "unsleeve" it and take it back to the original dimensions - that's when I get time! As you probably know, Easter is a bit frantic here!
