Just one more for now. This is the column and brake hanger bracket. The bolster will work up and down in this column and the arch bars will bolt to the top and bottom. 3/4" scale is a delight to build in. Too much fun Jack

Any chance of a photo series how you made those? Really beautiful but I can imagine how you made them.

When I made the Journal box and brake shoe I was on a tear and neglected to get the camera out until the end of the day when it was time to sweep up and have a beer. I do have a series of photos on the making of the column and the ribbed back wheel and will try to post some tonight. Happy model building Jack

Hello Paul First off thank you for the compliments. I would be happy to post some photos of Peters Nickel Plate Berkshire. I am currently finishing up another Berkshire for a client. His name is Tom Lawson. This second Berkshire is a more accurate model than Peters as I had never actually seen one when I finished Peter's. Since then I have had a chance to climb around on a real Nickel Plate Berk and to photograph it. I'll start a new thread called Nickel Plate Berkshire. Jack

Here are some pictures of the columns going together. Here is the main part of the column ready to be zoomed off the piece of stock with the slitting saw. Marked out with my old friend the fine point sharpie. Attachments:

Here is the column nipped off. It is not yet complete as it still needs to have the brake hanger brackets attached. Attachments:

Here is the start of the brake hanger brackets. There is one bracket hanging off each end of the column, but they will be machined hooked together to make silver soldering them to the column easy. Attachments:

Here is the column in the foreground and the hanger brackets in the background. The alignment of the brackets will be maintained by the bit of brass spanning them. Attachments:

Here you can see the little dag that remains after band sawing. It will now be filed away. This is a little trick that I learned from reading master Kozo's books. Attachments:

Now aint that purty. 3/4" arch bar truck column with brake hanger brackets. When one of each part is done they will be sent off to my friend Brad Bluth, the investment casting wizard. I'll take a dozen. How cool! I only have to make one of each, seems like cheating in a way. Too much fun! Jack Attachments:

Stunning Jack ! Regarding casting, have you made the master oversize to allow for shrinkage in the mould making and casting process or does your "wizard" have a cure for that problem.

Hi Andrew The masters for the parts were made slightly oversize. I hope to finish up the remaining bits this weekend and send them off to be reproduced. Jack

Hello My Friends Managed to get the fulcrum and lever made this evening. The fulcrum is one of those fiddly little bits that I had to think about for a while. You may find this interesting. This is the start of the fulcrum pivot point, 1/4" round brass with a 1/8" square hole bonked through. Attachments:
