Some slight progress (SWMBO wants a 4.5m x 3m conservatory before Xmas) I gave up on the multiple piece side skirts and went for simplicity. Yes, this is a M1.2 tap hanging there.... Side view with the new 'ears' araldited to the cab lower down. Front sloppy bit fitted. I'll silver solder the side bendy bit to it. I'm getting a little more motivated now! JB

Hi folks: a little bombshell for you. We just put our beloved little Westie to sleep, and as a result we want to 'go outdoors a little more' so I am open to sensible offers on my Brit. I've had enough of the plate work, as it is not to my taste, and I am unlikely to finish the beast to my own (unreasonably) high standards. I also have all the castings for the tender. Offers on a postcard.... JB

Hello JOHN--------- Sorry to hear of your loss...I had my dear old moggy put to sleep last month and can appreciate how it feels....My 3-bed semi seems so empty now; back to just myself again....Don't be too hasty about the Brit.. Once sold you can't get it back!!...........

Hello JOHN--------- .Don't be too hasty about the Brit.. Once sold you can't get it back!!........... I've been thinking about disposing of the Brit for some time now. I've got so many other interests and ambitions for the time left for me that I simply can't see myself finishing it. I might just put the cash towards a nice Hymer motorhome - once I sell the boat that is! John

Hi John,
I am really sorry to hear about the loss of your lovely pet Westie.
However I agree with 4930, you might regret losing the Brit in a few months time. Unlike a boat, it doesn't take up a lot of space and it won't deteriorate or require any attention, if you cover it up and leave it on the bench for a few months.
One day you might really like a good project, especially one which you know has been built "Right".
When I first became ill with ME, back in about 1993, I took 2 years to get moving again. Then I set up my workshop to get started on Bongo. I can tell you that going back to an old hobby was the perfect therapy for me. It made me feel terrific to be in my workshop and creating something again.
I hope you are always busy doing things you enjoy doing, but you might one day wish you had the Old Brit to get back to...
Best wishes from Scotland, Chris.

hi john,
i am also sad to hear of your decision after all your hard and excellent work on the Brit.
from a purely monetary perspective you would of course get a far better price for a completed loco - hence perhaps best to press on and sell then? especially as you have nearly completed the loco itself.
i sold one of my locos which was my pride and joy in 1996 - a decision i and the family subsequently regretted enormously. i was extremely fortunate to buy it back in as sold condition some 5 years later. i sold my first loco i built (a don young RAILMOTOR) many years ago and although i wasnt particularly attached to the loco my then quite young kiddies apparently were and had even given it a name - they are teenagers now but still remind me of my decision to sell it with much unfavourable comment, and if i could buy it back i would do so - unfortunately the person i sold it to runs it a lot and doesnt want to sell it back!
cheers, julian

Chris
After comming this far, it would indeed be a shame not to complete it, the thrill of the first steaming is a great expierence, when something you have laboured on, moves under it's own power, we now have the dark nights with us, which I find is the ideal time to press on in the workshop, providing you can keep warm :-))

Hi John
A wise decision you would have regretted selling the Brit.
Why we all (me included) get so attached to pets I don't know. a sad moment.
Looking forward to the next progress report some time in the future
Regards Andrew

John , we all have good and some bad times , I am 74 and sometimes I say this is my last project but really we do NOT control our time here and therefore we hope for the best and accept the reallity . You are doing a very nice job , you will be proud of the result when is finished . The glass is half full . Good luck .

Hi John, Glad to hear you're keeping your Britannia and continuing to work on it. Like Shawki I'm 74 so can vouch for what he says, I mean just look at the blinding progress I'm making with Boadicea's boiler. With you and Geoff (Carlisle) getting steam up in the shed I'll just have to get cracking or be left forever with a large copper doorstop. Jim.
