David, sorry to hear about your fathers poor health, hopefully he will see your new business venture turn into a great success. Please accept my best wishes for your business, I did the same thing back in the 80's it's hard work but can be very satisfying. Regards Paul

How lovely that he can see you starting out; most people don't get to see their gifts used.

Evening readers, as i'm sure you can appreciate progress has been very much stationary the last few months but i have managed to make a fixture to machine the 2nd side of the Horn Blocks and also the clamps i'll need.
The idea is the jobs will sit clamped with the clamp you can see and a couple will come in from the sides, where i'll use the T slots in the machine table. I'll then remove the middle of the Horn, then using a clamp shown in the below picture, and machine round the outside.
I've got one of my milling machines working now so I'd like to give it a work out on these.
And the last bit of news for today is unfortunately my dad passed away on the 28th of April.
Thanks for looking in.

Hi, Like Pete said, great update until the last bit. Condolences to you & the family. On the bright side, every time you use your machines you will think of him I’m sure.
Cheers Kerrin

As others said, that was an unexpected ending to the post. I'm sure your dad was proud and impressed with the work you're doing on the loco, no doubt he enjoyed watching your progress whether he had any interest in trains himself.
Your progress is looking good!

Hi David.
Sorry to hear about your Dad. That's very sad news. Good luck with your new business. Working for yourself is very hard work but is very satisfying.....even the jobs that would be boring to others.
Bob.

Sorry to hear about your dad, but I've no doubt he is proud of the skills you are displaying with this locomotive. I'm certainly impressed and envious.

No update on the model in this post, things are occurring so hopefully I'll get a post put together for you all soon This weekend the Great Central Railway has managed to run a Gala event and they have had a visitor there in 92134, the only surviving single chimney 9F remaining. I just stumbled on this video on YouTube of 92134 and 92214 double heading, probably the most over powered train there has ever been. youtu.be/BjrD7IybDf8

OK, here we go, and this isn't all I've been upto. (Please note this is the first time I've tried the following method to host pictures so what could possibly go wrong?) So first image is the frame plates, taking pride of place on the dining table. flic.kr/p/2mD7aR8Next image is something I've posted on here before... machined from 1 solid piece. A lot of work and I got it wrong.... on the CAD, before I cut any metal. flic.kr/p/2mD7cNeSo this I have remade, but rather than machining from scratch its been tweaked, laser cut and silver soldered using slots and tabs to hold it together... my silver soldering still needs some practice. flic.kr/p/2mD1KatThe next thing I've done is remade the front brake cylinder support stretcher, again I wasn't happy with this, the original one I made was a mash up of the works drawings and les warnetts drawings.. what I've done now is made it to the works drawings but tweaked that to use the les warnett brake cylinder. This has now also become a slot and tab Fabrication. Old, flic.kr/p/2mD9qn9New, flic.kr/p/2mD9oq3flic.kr/p/2mD1KfyThe final bit to see in this update is I've had for a while in kit form the firebox support stretcher, this has (by Ed Parrott) had a few strategically placed tacs with a tig welder to hold it as a unit and this will get silver soldered next time I have access to a friends heating equipment. flic.kr/p/2mD1Kayflic.kr/p/2mD1KaoI've also been progressing the Horn Blocks. I'll post some pictures of them soon.

I just so love the dining table photo. This is what they are for. Ours has a glass top but I am sure that it may scratch if frames were assembled upon.

Well, I was hoping to show you some finished horn blocks this side of Christmas. But it's not quite got there. I can show you the Inner and Outer strengthening plates and the base of the pony truck, all laser cut at Model Engineers Laser. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to every one that follows the build thread. flic.kr/p/2mT36yrflic.kr/p/2mSTmczflic.kr/p/2mSZqXa
