I think if we go that way the customer will want them fully welded. Problem is the tubes are so out of position I need to machine the band every time I do one so I'd have to have a new band for each end of each tube anyway.

Thought you might like to see that. The job is a piece of EN8 steel, It starts as a solid billet 105mm long by 101.6mm diameter(4 inches) 3 minutes later its 100mm diameter with a 61mm hole in it.... 95mm deep. There just a spacer for road tankers but i thought i'd show off my pile of swarf for the day.... and yes I emptied before we started...

I'm reminded of the old Popeye cartoon where a 12" cube of steel is turned into a cuff link!
I'm also reminded of some of the 'interesting' jobs I had to do when I was a serving soldier. Quite a few needed an eye welded on for the overhead crane to get the thing onto a 6' diameter faceplate!
