From what I can see of the EMCO spindle, there is no preload on assembly. I'm guessing it gets tighter as it warms up. The set-up process is aiming for a spindle temperature of 60 degrees C. Sounds hot, but that's what it says. It does get warm in use.

Sounds hot, but that's what it says. It does get warm in use. Wilf That would be very unusual, I've never seen that before. Generally speaking, a spindle without preload sounds like a bag of nails.

On the Denford there is an adjustment nut, very much akin the the steering head adjuster on a motorcycle. It has a tab washer that locks it in place

I have decided to use the dial and rotary switches and dump the rest of the pendant. I will mount them on the front fascia of the machine, that way it won't get dropped or snagged

It has just arrived and the instructions are extremely well written, concise and informative. 20221026_144034 by Sigma Projects, on Flickr I bought a pendant from eBay that connected using BlueTooth. However, when I upgraded from Mach3 to Mach4, there was no driver for it. I've reassigned jog buttons on KMotionCNC to do those functions from the screen, and frankly I don't miss it.
